I have a 7 year old son and since separating from my partner almost 6 years ago I haven’t received a single gift, card or acknowledge of Mother’s Day. I work full time and have shared custody of my son. This year I have decided rather than go to work on Monday with the usual questions of what did I get for mothers day etc and then hearing what others got I have decided to celebrate to the absolute hilt. I’m giving my son a sum of money while I wait outside a gift store having told the lady that my son will be selecting me a gift and he chooses what he wants to buy me and has it wrapped. I have told my son and he is so excited he wants to buy me a piece of jewellery which I think is great as I can keep it forever as a reminder of our first celebrated Mother’s Day. We will then spend all of Sunday at the cinema and having lunch. I feel so blessed to have such a beautiful caring son and to also finally be empowered enough to celebrate it just like those who are partnered.
