Gotta be honest. Every single time without fail that I have made it onto the MoM leader board, no matter where I actually am in the red section, I only ever ever get my fourth preference. Usually a book. While it is lovely that we can get rewards, kinda fed up with the cut and paste people getting the best of the prizes, while people like me, who make genuine and honest comments always get the booby prize. Not going to bother anymore.

  • I feel fortunate to belong to a site that offers any prizes for participation and do not consider any of the prizes to be ‘booby’ prizes; I have new recipes, ideas, the opportunity to comment and more.

  • well yeah you have a point. i haven’t been here very long and at first i was making basic comments but now i feel more involved and like i discovered that i do have more freedom to say what i like. so just excuse me if you see my earlier comments that are the typical ones that are complained about and please just understand that i was new. i really like being able to offer my opinion and i find that because they are being received well, i have gained a lot of confidence. I just thought that i would justify this so that you ladies would not just assume that everyone is cut and paste, cheats or ignorant. i love contributing and i hope that my comments will make your day, give you unbiased advice, or help you feel related to. thanks for reading this!

    • Well commented on – The longer you are on this site the more you do contribute as your confidence does grow and you want to share, comment and help.

  • Just wondering how you know they get the best prizes.

  • I’m a happy camper because I love books and any prize or reward that comes my way is gratefully accepted and appreciated.

When I first started on here, the first month I went a bit crazy with the comments, now I’ve sussed how it all works I come here when I have a cuppa or when I’m trying to put off the housework lol!

I’m now not interested in how people get their rewards or how short or long their comments are, that’s not up to me – I’ve just decided to go with the flow and do my own thing on here.

Plenty of other sites give you nothing for taking the time to read and comment.

  • Due to the lack of internet I haven’t been able to accesss Mom for a while and due to a prize I am still waiting for I have kind of lost interest, hopefully one day I will renew my interest when I get my hydra oil prize pack.

  • So far this is the first month I am so close to the red section. I am a bit excited to be honest so I dont know what it is all about. Just keep it up hun. Hopefully one day you get what you truly want.

  • I’m only new to this site, but so far I find it really great. It’s a great site to hop on and look through whilst the kids are in bed, I’ve found recipes, projects for me and my daughter to do together aswell as some great reads. I’d be excited to win a prize (I think everyone would to be honest). But for me so far, it’s a wind down at the end of the day and to find some interesting things and gain inspiration from other mums.

  • The prizes are FABULOUS and when I actually do make it onto the leaderboard, I admit that my heart beats a little faster, but after being here a while, I have found that I’m definitely more interested in what the women have to say. My only complaint is that some of the stories and questions disappear quickly – just when some friendships are starting to form. I hear what you’re saying though.

  • If you read the rewards page, it states that duplicate comments are deleted at the end of the month and points deducted to make it fair for everyone.

    • Sometimes when I submit a comment It doesn’t seem to have gone through so I touch submit again. The screen then changes and says a duplicate comment is detected. On my rewards page it only shows up once anyway so I hope that’s not a problem.

  • I kind of use this as my outlet and my downtime and my own personal oasis as well. I find it a very useful site to gain information on a variety of topics and to learn from others and to also listen and be an ear to people albeit a cyber one, and also as a way of sharing some of the frustrations I can’t at work or at home.

  • I’m the same. I get fed up with seeing the same old comments, and I only started here last month. I’ve had a real interest in most things I’ve commented on, but I haven’t always got the words for a comment underneath. Please don’t leave.

  • I understand your frustration, and I guess everyone feels a bit the same – haven’t we all seen at least one “there are some good comments here” which is really kinda inappropriate given the topic? And of course we’d all like to get a “good prize”. I try to regard the prizes as a nice bonus to the other things the site offers, and just feel sorry for people who cheat, because that says something very sad about them and their lives.

It’s a pity though, that this is such a recurring bugbear for so many participants on the site. MoM – could we have an editorial comment?

  • Yep im the same i tried so hard last month ended up with 1425 points for the month and still ended up with the book.
Dont get me wrong i love this site but it seems the people that get rewarded are the ones who just write “thanks for sharing” “loved your story”

  • I understand your frustration, I too got the book again and last month put a lot of time into the site and shared a lot of recipe’s as well. I do not copy paste at all and all recipe’s are cooked and photo’s shown. Don’t give up, hopefully they realize who does not put effort in, and hopefully they are watching this and these people are not getting the prizes. I am not a big fan of books but I can give them as gifts which is fantastic. I do love the site and love sharing my recipe’s. I have also noticed so far this month it is very quiet, not a lot of anything going on, not many new recipe’s at all,not may questions and even stories, maybe this is because the prizes are not as big for the end of the month, I am hoping more people start sharing soon. You have to think maybe you got the book but you may get chosen for another prize coming up.

  • I love the idea behind Moms but you are right about the lack of scruples of the cut and paste type comments. They have no shame! I hope you change your mind and hopefully you will soon receive a reward that you love. Have a lovely day today : )

  • I understand what you’re saying, Kate. When I first started looking at the different MoMs sections, I noticed the same people putting generic comments like “There are some good comments here”, “Great ideas, thanks for sharing”, or “This is some really good advice” on post after post after post, and with the recipes, the same people were putting generic comments like “Looks delicious, thanks for sharing”, “Will have to try this”, and “Great recipe, thanks for sharing” on every recipe they commented on. If they’re not “copy & pasting”, I’ll run around our block naked every night at midnight for a week. While any rewards are a bonus, it’s obvious these people are only commenting to rack up points, so they can get the best prizes. A similar thing happened last year for a few months on the “Word of Mouth On-Line” site, where people earn points for reviewing different businesses in their area, and the points can be exchanged for gift vouchers/cards. Once certain people (who are prominent on various Facebook free-sample pages) cottoned on to it, it was almost like a competition to see who could do the most reviews, with people boasting that “I got $100 in gift cards this week”, etc. It ruined the site for the people who were genuine in reviewing businesses, cost the site a fortune in gift cards, and the site eventually had to change the rules applying to earning points, because of some people’s selfishness and greed. Please don’t leave Kate, rise above those sorts of people, and continue to share your thoughtful and genuine ideas and recipes, because one of you is worth a hundred of them.

    • I think some of the comments are fine, Sometimes I do write “thanks for sharing” or “this looks delicious” and it is not a copy paste at all, it is just what I am thinking when I am looking at the recipe. I do agree, sometimes some comments can look copy paste but not all are. I have seen a lot of people who write these and I am sure they are not putting the same thing over and over and over again. The ones that are like “There are some good comments on here” I see this from the same person over and over and over again with no input at all on what the post is about. Please don’t assume that everyone that writes these comments have copy and pasted.

      • Yes totally agree Tilly. I sometimes say that the recipe looks delicious as it genuinely does. I try and put valuable input into recipe comments, however I’m more likely to write a longer more extrapolated response to Real Stories Or Answers etc. Honestly guys it is quicker these days to write a response on a smartphone than it is to cut and paste. I hope the people who are doing these comments over and again genuinely are in need of these prizes.

      • I may at times comment on a recipe & thank the person for putting it on here but I sincerely mean it & I like to share my changes with some from time to time. Please keep adding more, all the lovely ones I have printed out have been tried & tested & I’m truly grateful.

      • I also write thanks for sharing or looks delicious, because it does, this does not mean that I am cutting and pasting.
