Being a full time mum of two little people under two, is the best job ever! I love being a full time mum and wouldn’t have it any other way. Recently, while talking to a friend of a friend, who was expecting her first child, I was asked about my births. I mentioned that I had had two c-sections. Straightaway, she said ‘oh, so you haven’t had a real birth then’. This woman had no clue about the reasons for my c-section, nor was she interested in asking.
It got me thinking about the stigma attached to c-sections and the attitudes of women who have achieved a ‘natural’ birth. Regardless of a woman’s choice, to either have a natural or c-section birth, I feel the attitude towards a c-section is often unwarranted and adds a burden of guilt to a mother who may already be struggling with their choice to have a c-section or has/is following medical advice to have a c-section. Should the focus not be on the health of the baby and the mother! Should we not celebrate the safe arrival of a precious baby, regardless of how they arrived in this world? Just a thought…
