Hello!

So for the last couple of weeks my 8 month old has taken to going to bed at around 7pm. However this usually involves screaming, pouting, laughing and going back forth between us to decide who gets the pleasure of the “I got him to sleep” victory dance.

My partners dance lasted 5 seconds tonight, as my son promptly rolled on to his back, opened his eyes and laughed. Usually this reaction brings forth either rage, irritation or the “for friggs sake- you were *just* asleep!” Complete with hands thrown in the air. My son knows how to irritate me. I swear he does it on purpose.
This time I couldn’t help it and just started laughing. I’m unsure if it was sleep depravation or it just looked adorable, but I even caught my partner smothering a laugh.
It took us 5 minutes to realise we would now have to redo the whole sleep routine to get him back to sleep. Partner reached down, grabbed our son and was rewarded with an indignant squeal which sounded like “hey, I was enjoying that!” And promptly started to cry.

It took another hour before he finally passed out. This scenario also happens at 3am- EVERY MORNING.

So I really admire those that are single parents or have more than one child, one is a handful as is!!

  • It\\\\\\\’s now getting better, he doesn\\\\\\\’t fight so hard to stay awake anymore (mostly coz we tire him out with playing first) and he\\\\\\\’s been sleeping longer as he\\\\\\\’s just learnt how to crawl backward haha!
However we had a setback last week when he had the flu- did not sleep at all the whole night until 7am. Thank god it was only one night though!

  • Its not easy that’s for sure! my daughter is the same at 10 months – Most of the time its a fight to get her to sleep at any time of day/ night – since she was born. I completely agree with you about all the single parents and those with more than one young baby / toddler- you all deserve a medal and at least a week of uninterrupted sleep!

  • Good luck some kids seem to get it right early on but with two of my three kids it can be a night mare trying to get them down, but luckily our 3 years old cuddles till he is nearly asleep then we put him down to walk into his room. We know when he says night night on the way in there will be no issues getting him down. But with the other two kids its a stuggle to get them down and to get the to stay there.

  • He’s never been a “sleep through the night” baby like I’ve heard from Donny other mums. A tad disappointing, but he’s worth all the sleep in the world :)
