“Parents of Autism
We fight harder than many know
We fight longer than many think
We have moment of feeling defeated
We have moment where we feel we can concur this
We are tired because of it
We cry when we watch them struggle
We cheer when they start to get it
Autism changes our perspective on life
When before we worried about what we were going to do day today
Now we worry about what therapies we need to do, what education should we fallow what happens if something happens to me. Who will take care of them? Will they ever be able to get married? Will they be able to move out on their own? Will they ever live a normal life? Can I take them here or there without over stimulation and a melt down?
It’s harder than many people ever could imagine. But we’re grateful for it. it has taught us a lot it has given us the power to not judge another. It has given us the power to look past a screaming child without thinking “someone shut that kid up!” because at some point in time we were all there. And we all had someone give us those looks or even speak out to us about our “parenting” it has given us the power to be proud of every small accomplishment our child does. It has taught us to look past the what if’s and live for today.
Some may not feel it’s a good thing, but I am a proud autism parent. I am proud of my child through every struggle they fight. I am proud to be standing here fighting it with them. “
