Hello!

for all the stay at home mums how did you know it was the right time to go back to work? i have two girls aged 4 and nearly 3 and i feel like for the last year i just need to be doing something whether it be a hobby or going back to work. when my oldest was 7 months i tried going back to work but there was no work for me at the time so in the end i pulled my daughter out of daycare and resigned from work and not long after found out i was pregnant with my second.

i feel though right now i am ready for going back to work the only problem i have is my availability. we only have one car and not enough money to be catching a bus everyday so my availability is stuck to after school time (the perfect time for juniors/school kids to be working). i have thought about working from home but not sure which way i want to go with it. i guess i am looking for other people who have been in my shoes or similar and how you dealt with everything.

thanks so much for any help

  • I think if you are feeling ready make sure your CV is up to date and starting searching for and keeping up to date with new jobs. If you a not in a rush eventually the ideal job will come along and that’s better than getting stressed over a few less than ideal jobs before finding the right one. Good luck, keep us posted.

  • I have been at home for the last 6 years due to a injury I got while at work and while I have loved the time I’ve had with my children 18,15,14. & 4 I really miss working I miss the adult interaction and being know as me not mum or a wife just me.
I think every woman knows deep down when they are ready.
    Good luck

  • There are still some supermarkets that do night fill. Maybe something like that? I had 18 months off and although it pained me to be apart from my daughter, returning to work, in the long run has been beneficial to my mental health

  • My story is different from yours, I went back to work when DD was about 7 months old and that was always the plan. Hubby had retired from the armed services after 20 years service and he stayed home and looked after DD. I had a good public service job and wasn’t ready to give that up, I continue to work for another 12 years and then decided that was enough, I’d retire early and now we have a different life.

If I didn’t go back to work and wanted to stay home and have some income I would have found a way and possibly looked at starting an eBay business or something similar.

As far as doing the ‘right’ thing work versus stay at home, there is no right or wrong decision.
