Hello!

What really gets my blood boiling is people talking on mobile phones while driving. I am seeing this more and more like it is just common practice.
Have you people ever thought that by your lack of concentration just how much you can change peoples lives if you cause an accident.
I know first hand 5 years ago Hubby and I were driving along heading into the city when a female on a mobile did not stop at a stop sign and went straight through keeping in mind we were on a highway. Well the Ambos lost me 4 times in the back of there unit on the highway as they worked on me for 5hrs before I could be transported and was going to be airlifted if they could not get me stable on their last try and it has left both Hubby and I with permanent damage and health problems as well as I suffered really badly mentally with really bad PTSD and was equal to someone coming back from war.
I was left in a wheel chair for 2 years and a walking stick to this day if we have to go to the city other wise I hang on to Hubby. my short term memory is not the best I don’t sleep for days and when I do with medication the longest I have slept is 3 hrs. My kids and Grandkids had to see me swollen and black from my toes to my chin as well as all the lines I had in . I was this damaged due to the fact that I am short I went up and down through the seat belt as the doctor said it was equal to a child in the front seat at only 4ft 10 in in height.
Our lives have been turned up side down and is the best it will ever get. We are both in constant pain but I now only choose to take medication when it gets way to much for me. This happened just before my 41st birthday and I have been left that food and drink goes in one end and out both with in seconds. i was 89.9kg and could never loose weight due to PCOS and now fight to stay at 47kg as if I don’t what feels like spend my days non stop eating I drop really fast as I can loose an average of 3kg a night and my doctor panics every time I get under 40 kgs. My veins have shrunk so now they find it hard to get blood. I have undergone many ops but can’t be fixed. I was told by Hubby and the police when he took a phone interview many many months later that she was still on her mobile as she got out the car. All she got was a $75.00 fine and we got a life sentence. House work for me is nothing but pain and falling on the floor. Nothing is easy any more.
We were lucky as following us so I have been told were 2 RAAF medics that helped us until the Ambos got there. So 2 them I owe my life as when they got there I was unresponsive and from what Hubby told me they got me breathing. So all up 5 times I was in real danger of not being here today.

So please for the love of god next time your about to take or make that call or check your phone while driving just think first of what damage you could possibly make to someone else’s lives.

If telling you all this makes one person think twice well than it has done some good.

Post your story
  • Wow., this is a really powerful story. In a book or movie., you would have your vengeance or the mobile phone woman would be run over by a driver on their phone. I am so sorry to read your story.

  • My pet hate too,
I feel like yelling at them.
If they put themselves at danger that’s bad enough but when they are running the risk of hurting, worst case killing some one innocent.
They really need to think about that!

  • only problem is in the real world we can not control what others do and they still talk on their mobiles. We never do and our kids were taught when they started to drive to turn their phones off so they are not tempted to answer it as it will show up if it’s a missed call or a text

  • I am so glad you have shared your story and hopefully you have stopped them from talking on phones whilst driving. Such a terrible story and I know I never do this. All you have to do is think of your kids and that is enough reason for not doing it. You would think by now people would know better.

  • Good point. I hate seeing stupid people on mobiles while driving too. I also am still recovering from a car accident 9 years ago caused by a stupid inattentive driver. Shame on any driver who uses a mobile. I think they should lose their licence first time they are caught for 12 months and pay a fine. Maybe tht would stop them.

  • I know what you mean regarding compensation payouts, I was involved in 2 car accidents when I was a teenager, one I was a passenger when the driver hit a try and my head went through the windscreen and with the second accident, I was the driver, but a truck ran a red light and demolished my car, these accidents were within one year of each other. I received many stitches to my face at the age of 18 (not nice for a teenager) I still have the scares – I was lucky I was not killed. As for the second one I had severe whiplash and a back injury which I still have today. It took 5 years with the solicitors to recieve any money, after all their fees were taken out I was left with a total of $26,000 for both accidents. I was told that if my claim had been selttled 6 months earlier I would have walked away with about $80,000. I still have the scars and I still have the back pain and severe headaches since the accident. But I am disgusted with how much you ended up with. I feel so sorry for you and just hope your life improves.

    • I’m glad you posted your story as well Shazzbot, so that others can see what people go through at the hands of others carelessness. I also feel very sorry that this has happened to you. The legal system is so very upside down and unfair towards the true victims.

  • yes I did sue her but things have changed as whiplash once upon a time was worth $50000.00 is now only $2000.00 ect I did not get compensation for loose of my job as they said I was only casual and could have left at any time but every one was casual unless you made leading hand and than you were part time perm People have been there over 15 years and still casual. I had my roster for the next six months but that did not matter. I had 4 years fo going to specialist on both sides 34 in total 6 sycs and 6 sycoligists as well as physio and all tests and scan types well when you get a payout you have to pay for all of them and the specialists were $6000.00 an hour or part there of as well as paying medicare back than center link as well as the solicitors and for every stamp envelope letter ect I was awarded $462000.00 after everything was taken out I got letter letting me know $82000.53 was put in my bank which was just enough to payout my house which I did as we both can no longer work so got rid of the that debt. I did get $2000.00 left which I put towards paying for a prepaid funeral for my Mum as she has cancer and was worried about it so I took that worry away of course I paid off the difference. They would not look at my medical problems I have been left with as I had to see specialist which they would not agree so I had to go on a public waiting list and I am still waiting to see some to this day. If i had known than what I know now I would not have put myself through jumping through their hoops as I was left with a traffic phobia and every one they sent me to took 3 and a bit hours to get through and I had to be drugged to make the trips. Only good thing is we own our home but I miss my job and our life style was much better than. We were lucky as my new car I had for 4 days and not even drove yet was designed for the motor to go so far back than pop up in the air if not for that both of use would have been killed instantly. so for that I am grateful. Thanks every one for your kind words and letting me rant. hopefullyheidi I am sorry you also have had to endure the stupidity of others

    • Thank you, I was lucky and walked away. I just feel so sorry for you. You obviously think of others with the $2000 going towards your mum’s funeral. I saw in your other posts that your daughter takes care of your mother as well. I’m sorry for the sadness you all must be going through on top of your own health.

      • Thank you Yes My Daughter is looking after my Mum with Cancer as we are not able to look after her as we have been barely able to look after our selves. I am very proud of her and what she does. She is also the one that has IVF to have children and her first was still born I was wheeled down to be in with her and felt useless as I could not get up to cuddle her or anything and than 2 years ago this December she gave birth to her daughter who was born to early. Mum got first put into Hospital and Cancer and brain tumors found just after our accident.

  • I too am outraged that this woman only got a $75.00 fine! It’s absolutely disgraceful that the law has allowed her to get away scot free, when your quality of life has been severly affected. I was a victim of a guy who was under the influence of something and he crossed lanes of traffic when I was on a highway. I was forced to take evasive action and swerve into the left lane, otherwise I might not be writing this. Unfortunaly the car behind me hit my side and rear, but it was better than the alternative which probably would have killed me. I was so shaken the lady who hit me and I got details from each other and then the young male that caused the accident. She and I both reported him to be at fault with the insurance agencies. Unfortunate my phone was out of battery and I was so shaken I didn’t think to get the other lady to phone the police. When I tried to make a report directly afterwards at the police station and tell th the young man was under the influence as agreed by the other lady, they didn’t want to know. They told me to take reconciliation in the fact that because he had no insurance he would probably be paying our cars off for a very long time. I tried to point out yes but what if he kills someone next time? I feel so very sorry for you. Sometimes the law is so totally slanted towards the offenders rather than the victims!

  • Oh, I am so sorry for what you have and are going through. I can certainly understand your anger and frustration, I cannot believe that this person only got a $75 fine, did you try and sue her. Your life has changed forever, I am almost speechless. People driving whilst using their mobiles should be made to read these stories and even meet the people who’s lives have been effected by their stupidity. I have NEVER used my phone while driving, I turn it off! But yes, I see them every day and it makes me so angry that they as so ignorant and stupid. I can only hope your life improves in someway. Thank you for sharing your emotional story.

  • Oh Bonnie, you have every right to see red whenever you see someone talking on their mobile phones and driving. It’s abhorrent what happened to you and completely unfair.

  • yes I fully agree they do not think of the innocent live they can affect

  • I’m so sorry you’ve had to suffer through another persons recklessness and stupidity. I often get so annoyed when I see people driving and talking or texting. It’s not that they are putting themselves in danger, that’s bad enough, but everyone else who are doing the right thing get put in danger.
