Hello!

Ok so I have 3 kids, they are almost 9, 7 and 1. My husband and I have been starting to discuss my return to work, I am unsure whether it is worth going back with the baby still so young, and feel as though I would be going to work just to pay for childcare and after school care. Has anyone been in this position and what did you do? I had return to work when my oldest was 10 months, but as I was so sick during the pregnancy I have to leave work earlier than planned. The same thing happened with my second child, however I was able to work up to my due date with baby 3.

  • I don’t know what state you are in. Unless you can get hours that allow you to take the children to school and pick them up after school, or have somebody will willingly do that and care for them for you free of charge it may cost you just about as much as you earn. One child I know that sometimes goes to after school care it costs approx $50.00 per child per afternoon =$100.00 Childcare will cost you approx. $70.00 per day mininum possibly up to $90.00 per day provided you are eligible for a rebate. I’m not sure what the before school care charge is. Is the amount you earn after income tax going to earn you enough to be worth ….unless you have a highly paid job. Taking in account the addtional transports to take your children to be cared for you may not benefit financially from it. I know one Mum who ended up with a net gain of $2.15 hour.

  • I was back at work on a casual basis when my 1st was 6 weeks old and she came in with me…..not by choice. With my 2nd it was a little better and wasnhome until she was 14 months old and managed to breastfeed until she was 2 1/2. Looking back I don’t know how i kept up….you gotta do what you gotta do

  • It’s a common dilemma in today’s world. I guess you need to sit down and work out the pros cobs. Starting with how much income you’ll bring in and how much will go on Childcare and after school care. Go from there
