I took my dad grocery shopping last week as he is not in good health but insists on still doing the grocerys himself I thought I would go and help him but when walking around the shops I felt people were staring at us as my dad is hunched over quite badly people were looking at him like he was a freak or something it got to one stage when one person just blocked his walk way which he had to walk extra long just to get to where I was it is so annoying and rude it made angry but he said to me oh these people no respect or manners theses days

  • I agree with your dad, no manners and no respect. And they say it’s mostly the young ones that are lacking……my most recent experience was with an adult who really should have known better. A simple thank you…….isn’t hard people

  • Don’t get me started on manners or lack of. Its seems like its alien to many people & its times like this that you need to forget your manners & say something. Your poor Dad.

  • I cant stand the lack of respect and common curtisy these days. What ever happen to not referring to adults by their first names or apologising if you accidentally bump someone? Is it so hard to be sympathetic to others and understanding of others situations. Random act of kindness shouldn’t be “random” but something that takes place every day. I’m trying to raise my kids to have respect for the themselves and for others but its a slap in the face when we look around and all we see is rude arrogant people that don’t know how to behave.

    • It’s come to the point to get a please or thank you is even very rare.

  • I am constantly shocked by the lack of respect some people have. I have an inquisitve 4 year old and would hope that she grows to be respectful and well mannered.

  • He is right people have no respect, not even for the elderly… i have taught my kids that if they see an elderly person needing help to ask, if they say hello to someone during the day it may be the only smile that person gets… now my 12 y/o son is so thoughtful of others around him but especially the elderly

  • I do not get on with my father, but would have loved a relationship with him. I for one am appalled at people manners, people are so very rude and uncaring these days, it’s very sad. I remember when I was pregnant last year, an elderly lady got on the bus with two walking sticks, the bus was full, not one person got up, instead people looked at their phone’s, ipads, or out the window. I was 8 months pregnant, I got up and gave her my seat, she said no because I was pregnant, but I was more stable on my feet than her. The respect has gone. I dread to think what it will be like when my kids get older, I guess all I can do is instill some compassion into them. I’m so sorry you and your father had to endure that.

  • I would of happily growled at people for you! I love my dad hugely, I couldn’t think of a more kind, gentle and caring soul. I completely understand how you feel, protective of him, as he has been of you all your life. All that really matter is how much you love him and do for him.
