Hello!

I recently found out that I’ve been storing things in the fridge that I shouldn’t be, I knew that all meats and dairy should be stored in the fridge, though I was shocked to find that some of my fridge staples shouldn’t be in there at all!

Here are 4 products that shouldn’t be stored in the fridge.

1. Pumpkin

Whilst it’s important to keep pumpkins cool they also need to stay dry. If a pumpkin has too much moisture it starts to rot, and it gathers moisture when stored in the fridge.

2. Herbs

This is another one I have ALWAYS kept in the fridge. Herbs pick up moisture on the leaves when they are stored in the fridge, and believe it or not, they’re meant to stay dry to make the most of the flavour. If you want to get the absolute best from your cut herbs, pop them into a glass of water stem down.

3. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are tastiest when fresh, and keeping a tomato in the fridge takes the flavour out of it, literally. For the juiciest, yummiest tomatoes, ripen them on a windowsill and eat the fresh!

4. Tomato sauce

Here is one that will cause many an argument, tomato sauce. Yep, this is one that is meant to stay in the cupboard…. why you ask? Because one of the ingredients added is vinegar, and the vinegar is a preservative that is meant to keep your sauce nice and fresh, no matter where you store it. I think this one can go either way!

  • The only thing I already didn’t keep in the fridge is my tomato sauce. I also won’t put on in there though my partner frequently tries to put it there. He also believes that bread belongs in the fridge which drives me nuts.

    • I agree about the tomatoes – we do not give them too much light as we want them to last!
