A manager at Aldi has spilled the beans on when is the best day to grab a bargain at popular discount retailer Aldi.

A recent post on Reddit read:

“I noticed a lot of you love Aldi. I’m a shift manager there. AMA [Ask Me Anything] and I’ll tell you the truth.”

One follower asked whether some days are better to shop at Aldi than others.

“It differs from store to store,” the Aldi manager commented.

“When you’re in there, ask what days they get their delivery truck. Those are the days you want to go because that product basically came straight from the farm (or off the boat) to the warehouse then straight to the store.”

Best Shopping Day

But he did share that there is one day which is the best Aldi shopping day!

“Wednesday is universally the best day to shop at Aldi. New prices roll out every Wednesday and they have new ‘produce picks of the week’ which means that you can get a steal on some produce and other products,” the shift manager said.

“Since this produce is marked down so cheap, it goes fast so it’s always being replaced with new product. It’ll never just sit all day without being replenished,” he added.

Best Time To Shop

And what is the best time of day to shop at Aldi?

“If you want the freshest produce, arrive when we first open or right after 3pm,” the manager revealed.

“Always dig to the bottom of the pile though, we rotate the old produce to the top. Usually, you can put your hand on the product and if it’s not cold then it has been sitting out overnight or throughout the day.”

“It doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just not the best. Our policy on throwing away bad produce is complete discretion. We ask ourselves ‘Would you buy this?’. If it’s anything other than ‘yes’, we pitch it.”

And this also goes for buying meat and bread.

“When buying meat, look at the back of the cooler or the product on the bottom, we put the closest expiration dates in the front to rotate it. Same with bread. The deeper you go the newer it is.”

But don’t waste your time sifting through other products.

“We don’t rotate anything else in the store. If you’re digging to the bottom of the chip box you’re wasting your time and making our lives miserable. They all have the same dates.”

Double Guarantee

The manager also offers a way to try new products with zero commitment. He suggests customers take advantage of Aldi’s double guarantee, which means when you return a product, they’ll give you a refund as well as a similar priced product of your choice.

“Use this to try new things you’d be hesitant to try anywhere else. If you don’t like it, bring it back and we’ll give you your money back and a similar priced product of your choice. It’s a win win,” the manager said.

“You either discover something new you like or you get your money back and something you’re used to. Example, you want to try our chips. You buy it and think it tastes like crap. We’ll give you your $3 back and a free box of cookies.”

  • Their double guarantee is interesting – I’d never return a product just because I didn’t like it. I find most of Aldi’s products are of high quality.

  • Interesting way to advertise Aldi, the German owned company, why not support your local small business, farmers markets and Australian owned supermarkets.

  • I never knew about the double garuntee. Good to know. I love ALDI. Tho Wednesday’s are usually bad to shop as the new specials come out and it’s busy. The quietest time I find is about 2pm – before school pick up/when parents and kids hit the shops after school. Can go get what’s needed or just have a look around and it’s quiet. And still have time to make school pick up.

  • Wednesday is the worst day to shop
It is always picked over. Late on Sunday evening or Tuesday evening is the best. Avoid the crowd

  • Had no idea about these tips, great insight…though not likely to return something unless it’s off or something….if it’s just about taste likely to then just not buy again rather than bring back and get a refund..something to consider though if it may be worthwhile..

  • The double guarantee is new to me too.
When I go to Aldi it’s generally early in the morning and during the week, not on the weekend.

  • Oh wow I had no idea you can bring something back and swap if you didn’t like it! Or about the rotation of the food and 3pm. I love aldi. I always used to go when they opened but found BOTH my local stores never have everything on shelves first thing and then I need to return which is annoying.
