Once the balloons are full of water the sequins and glitter will float around similar to a snow globe. If they break there is no harm it’s only fun!

Material

  • 1 Pack of balloons (small water or large)
  • 1 Pack of sequins
  • 1 Tub of glitter
  • 1 Funnel

Method

  1. Open up your packets of balloons, sequins and glitter. For easier play organise them into small bowls or trays.
  2. Take your funnel and put the balloon over the end. Have your children choose glitter and sequins of their choice and put in the funnel.
  3. Once filled to the child's desire with glitter/sequins fill the balloon up with water.
  4. Enjoy watching your children play with the balloons!

Notes

For extra engagement you can freeze the balloons and give your kids some plastic tools to chip away or play with the round frozen bubble until it melts. We have also filled balloons up with other balloons which created some giggles.

  • What a great idea! You could even use Rice.

    • Rice would probably be safer too….and easier to clean up. I’m sure it would be much safer if a young child swallowed it. It may cause problems when it swelled but it wouldn’t be toxic, cause such bad cuts and cause internal bleeding

  • I tried this with my two today and they loved it

    • That’s great! Unfortunately with some of the comments I was thinking of asking moms to remove this activity.

I’m happy someone got some fun out of it 🙂

  • Sounds fun, but I would be making sure they would be played with outside so we wouldn’t have water and glitter all throughout the house.

    • Yes. Totally agree. I don’t reccomend you do it inside or outside while its snowing, during a hurricane or when there’s a possibility of a tsunami.

  • Soundsfun but I’m weary about ballon popping in their face with glitter in it.

    • yes that’s what I was thinking too!

      • You dont need to use the glitter if you dont want to. My children are 4+
Besides we only use a small amount (as you can see in the photo its not packed with glitter)

  • A lovely idea. I’m always a little wary of the safety of balloons around children. i have heard of children who have choked on balloons.

  • They are very pretty, but I have to disagree about them being safe. If it bursts in a child’s face they can very easily get glitter in their eyes and stuck to their skin. Sequins aren’t safe either. Glitter seems to go everywhere when used. I gave a friend’s child a doll with glitter on its clothes. They are still finding glitter around the place. Even dry it sticks to your skin and as easily removable as you would think, especially if they decide to roll around on the floor and get yet another lot stuck on their skin and in their hair. Luckily her Mum brushed her hair backwards or it could have gone in her eyes.

    • Pieces of burst balloons are considered chocking hazards, but I do not know how the sequins would be unsafe? I assume if the balloon burst the glitter would be wet and not airborne, with anything like this parental supervision is required. I think children would enjoy it as long as they are at an age where things aren’t constantly mouthed

      • Ahhh The glitter is wet. We have many burst. Sometimes the kids burst them deliberately. How is it any different than allowing a child to use glitter during an art and craft activity? Glitter and sequins among other things are used regularly at childcare centres. As well as small pom poms and other choking hazards.

I did not recommend this activity to a baby. Obviously common sense applies. Your comment is completely unnecessary and if you have a problem with this post you should go to the editor as they approved it rather than try and make me look or feel like Im putting children in danger.

  • You can now also buy balloons with a little led light in them for glow in the dark fun! Our kids love water balloons but I’ve never mastered putting balloons inside another. An inexpensive way to have fun.
