Aussie shoppers have spoken, revealing their favourite supermarket in Canstar’s annual Supermarket Satisfaction awards.

And for the sixth consecutive year, ALDI has come out on top.

The German-owned retail fave outshone Coles, Woolworths and IGA, snagging five stars in almost every category of the awards. From overall satisfaction, to value for money, layout and store presentation, produce freshness and specials, ALDI scored an impressive five stars.

However when it comes to product variety and customer service, ALDI was awarded three and four stars respectively.

According to Aldi Australia Group Director, Simon Padovani-Ginies, shoppers are more savvy than ever when it comes to value for money.

“Aldi has won a spot in the hearts and back pockets of Aussie shoppers through one simple and consistent commitment: high quality products at competitively low prices,” Mr Padovani-Ginies said.

As part of the awards, 2,770 Australians were surveyed on the supermarket they’d purchased from in the last month. Woolworths came in at second place, followed by Coles, IGA and other supermarket brands including Costco, Foodland and Foodworks.

  • I prefer fresh food markets over supermarkets for variety and freshness.

    • There is a massive of variety of products to purchase from other stores at fresh food markets and the savings are considerable for our household.

  • I’m not an Aldi fan. First of all it’s German-owned and I think it’s important to support Australian-owned retailers. Besides that I think the assortment is very limited. They hardly have vegetarian products, health foods and don’t even sell decaf filter coffee or filters !

  • Aldi is pretty good. Unfortunately I have to go to three different supermarkets as no single one stocks all of the items we want and use.

  • Have you noticed the items that are sold 1/2 price how can they do it unless it means that already they have been charging double .I note that cooking oil went from $5 to $7.50 for 2 litres of home brand and so many other things have risen in price by huge amounts . It seems to me to be the greatest ripoff to us people who just want to live .Why would we praise them when they take our money as much as they can. For me they are all bad and deserve little or no compassion from any of us.. Which got last prize = they all did

Aldi is our favourite supermarket to buy most of our stuff but not everything can be found there.

  • In all honesty I don’t think Aldi is that much cheaper and the chocolate tastes yuck but everyone is different.

  • I agree 100%. I do most of my shopping at Aldi and buy a few things I can’t get there at WW or Coles.
