This month MoM members could WIN 1 of 20 copies of the novel Goodwood, an enthralling debut novel of secrets and small town obsessions from Australian singer/songwriter, Holly Throsby.

Goodwood is a small town where everyone knows everything about everyone. It’s a place where it’s impossible to keep a secret.

In 1992, when Jean Brown is seventeen, a terrible thing happens. Two terrible things. Rosie White, the coolest girl in town, vanishes overnight. One week later, Goodwood’s most popular resident, Bart McDonald, sets off on a fishing trip and never comes home.

People die in Goodwood, of course, but never like this. They don’t just disappear.

As the intensity of speculation about the fates of Rosie and Bart heightens, Jean, who is keeping secrets of her own, and the rest of Goodwood are left reeling.

Rich in character, complexity and humour, Goodwood is a compelling ride into a small community, torn apart by dark rumours and mystery.

  • I love to read a good mystery and this sounds like one you can’t put down. Would love to win and find out what happens. This already has my intrigued.

  • I love stories about the secrets beneath the surface of picture-perfect towns. I’ve lived in a few and know for sure that although everybody thinks they know everyone else, there’s plenty being kept under wraps!

  • I was 17 in 1992. I’m glad nothing terrible happened to me but I’m more than happy to read fictional scary tales.

  • My son is six, which means the fog of early motherhood has lifted, leaving me ready for some ‘me’ time! I splurge on books for children but never me! A great Aussie book sounds fantastic to me.

  • I went to the Wheeler Centre to hear Holly Throsby launch this book, and she sounded so fascinated by her own story, as though she herself were swept along unexpectedly by it, that I want to feel the same thing.
