Experience enchanting displays of millions of sparkling lights across five hectares of gardens. This much-loved family event brings the spirit of Christmas to children (and adults) of all ages and is held at the Hunter Valley Gardens from Friday, 2 November  2018 to Saturday,  26 January  2019.

A world of wonder awaits, as you wind your way through 16 individual light displays. Be dazzled by our ‘Around the World’ exhibit featuring global icons such as the Opera House and the Eiffel Tower. Visit ‘Hunter’ our insta-famous giant teddy, who at five metres high delights the little ones and keep the cameras ready for the very sparkly princess castle, which is straight out of a fairytale. Surrounded yourself with lights in our brand new walk-through Christmas Bauble, take a photo with your loved one at our hot pink love seat and create enviable insta-stories of your own. Plus, there’s rainbows, unicorns, giant glittering baubles, glistening stars and one or two Christmas trees!

Our Garden rides will not be outdone when it comes to light displays and are a visual treat of their own! Soar above the gardens on the Swing Chair, get a bird’s eye view of the lights from our Ferris Wheel, zoom down the Super Slide and introduce an old favourite, the Venetian Carousel, to a new generation.

In the Animatronic Santa’s Factory, children can write a letter to Santa, visit with the Elves and have a very special photo taken with Santa himself. To add to the sparkle, the Hunter Valley Gardens will host a firework display at our family friendly New Year’s Eve event.

This is an event not to be missed! There’s roaming entertainment and nightly performances for the littlies by much loved children’s music group Little Scallywagz. Grab a bite from a food truck or two, with plenty of choice to please all.

Experience the wonder, joy and sparkle of the season at Christmas Lights Spectacular.

Christmas Lights Spectacular is open from 2/11/18 to 26/1/19. Day time hours from 9am to 4 pm and Christmas Lights open from 5.30pm to 10 pm.

  • When the kids are asleep we tape red and green streamers and tinsel across their bedroom doorway. in the morning they have to burst out of their rooms, an so begins our day.. full of excitement!

  • We give our dog a wrapped up Xmas present every year. She gets so much joy ripping off the paper that we almost experience as much joy as her by watching her!

  • Either putting the tree up and getting all crazy with the decorations or going Christmas light looking! Both are as enjoyable as each other and it brings the whole family together to do something fun!

  • I have never missed a Santa photo with the kids and each year we put all the photos up on the wall since my oldest son was born (15 years ago). We are now a blended family of 5 and the kids love looking at the photos and the little ones try to pick out the “real santa.”

  • “Turkey, tinsel, Christmas cheer.
children’s smiles that will last a year.
    Presents under the Christmas tree.
    A houseful of cherished family.”

  • We share regular gifts but we also give a small, cheap fun gift that is usually tasteless and completely useless. Its just a fun way to remind us all not to be too serious.

  • Our favourite family tradition in my family is to choose our own favourite food and I make sure everyone gets there own special Christmas meal because everyone deserves there own special day

  • Christmas Day is magical, but the magic starts on Christmas Eve. Every year, I help my beautiful Mum put the grandkids presents in their Santa stockings, while we watch Christmas Carols. We sing, laugh, sometimes cry, but the love and bond we share is super strong on this special night!

  • Our family tradition, though a bit wacky, is a family favourite. Every year, everyone takes turns being the designated ‘Christmas Angel’ where we photoshop a silly photo of them onto a paper angel and they get to grace the tree for that years whole festive season. It changes every year!

  • The kids throwing tinsel and decorations haphazardly onto the tree, the cat doing its best to upend the whole thing as it tries to get them off again and my husband swearing under his breath as he tries unsuccessfully to untangle the Christmas lights! Time for a holiday.

  • Definitely our breakfasts. My husband and I have been having a big breakfast for 16 years now and our twins who are now 7 have enjoyed them every year since they were born… albeit the first year they just ate the scrambled eggs and toast!

  • At the time it wasn’t but looking back it is – As a child driving with family from Brisbane for Christmas with mum’s HUGE family inside my grandparents tiny 2 bedroom cottage in Taree. Then the next morning driving on to Sydney with my dad’s small family inside a HUGE house!

  • Our friendly Christmas dessert competition – it’s fun coming up with new and creative desserts each year plus we get to eat all the yummy creations too!

  • Making pudding with our gorgeous Gran
    No recipe required.
Everyone gets to stir the mix,
And a perfect result is always acquired!

  • Opening one gift Christmas eve. It buys me a 7am sleep in and the kids love it.

  • The family gathering to create a gingerbread house. Christmas eve gather everyone and read a Christmas story ,travelling to see my mum to attend christmas by candlelight in bathurst the best watchinv the kids open their gifts from santa priceless

  • What’s seems to be evolving into or becoming our favourite family tradition is our whole family lying in our big bed singing the ‘Twelve days of Christmas’ song before we all go to sleep we usually start November through Christmas and New Years!

  • Nibblies for dinner Christmas eve

  • When we were younger, we used to ask Dad what was for dinner and he’s reply “Poo on toast” (slightly more colourful language). One Christmas our gift was fake poo on real toast with a sauce sachet. Now every year we get a box of fake poo!

  • Baking cookies for santa on Christmas eve and walking the streets looking at Christmas lights. It is our favourite night of the year. If only i could keep them young forever.
