Melt-in-your-mouth full and half hams procured from Australian pork and prawns so fresh you’ll think they’ve leapt out of the ocean onto your plate. IGA’s pork loins, shoulders and rolls crackle but stay juicy, and the turkey and lamb will have everyone coming back for more!
With IGA, making your Christmas extra festive is as simple as a drop in and shop and then a little tweak here and there before the big day.
We’re looking for active Mouths of Mums members who love to make their Christmas celebrations extra festive and are keen to spend a little more time than usual on some very special menu items.
We’ll give you an IGA voucher and send you off to IGA to shop for one or two extra festive menu items. Then we’ll ask you to create something extra festive and share your recipe so that you can bring to life the quality of IGA’s Christmas range.
Imagine serving your family an early and extra festive Crispy Rolled Pork with Plum Jam or a Pineapple Glazed Xmas Ham with all the trimmings. If pork doesn’t fit your Extra Festive Christmas List, try a succulent Apricot and Pistachio Xmas Turkey Roll or a Panettone Stuffed Xmas Lamb. All or one, these beauties will bring the extra festive sparkle to every Christmas table!
Of course, an extra festive Christmas doesn’t end with the meats! Dessert is arguably just as festive, and on Christmas Day everyone’s allowed a slice of everything … it would be rude not to! Load up your trolley at IGA with everything you need for an indulgent Triple Berry Xmas Trifle, a Sticky Date Xmas Pudding (check out that toffee nut crackle on top) or a Mango Tiramisu Xmas Cake that celebrates the freshest mangoes around.
Selected reviewers will need to create a recipe or two then share their review, photo and video before December 10th, 2025. We want to use your reviews and ideas to inspire others so we need it early.

I visited the Sefton Park (SA store) to pick up my goodies for a Christmas Fest at work. I was so happily surprised (as its been a LONG time since I shopped at IGA) to find not only some really cool Christmas stuff but some really unique and yummy products for day to day cooking. I think this IGA is going to be my new go-to store as the range, quality and selections are top-tier
I made Cheeseburger Sausage Rolls, my Annual German Pfeffernüsse cookies, a moist Banana Bread, pomegranate chocolate bark, and some Cinnamon Scrolls with walnuts. I left work with my storage containers clean and a very happy team who enjoyed every last crumb

I recently went to a new store as my local wasn't on the list to accept the vouchers. The store was nice and large a different was really easy to navigate with my pram. I was happy with the selection of items, I was able to get all items that I required and even got some extras for my trolley. The checkout area is a little odd, otherwise it was a great shopping experience.

I recently shopped at IGA for my Christmas dinner ingredients, and the experience was great. The store was clean, easy to navigate, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I found everything I needed for my turkey dish and Christmas cake, and the quality of the produce and ingredients was excellent. Prices were a little higher than the big supermarkets, but the convenience and service made it worth it. Overall, it was a pleasant and reliable shopping experience.

I shopped at IGA Georges Hall to buy all the ingredients for my show-stopping dessert. I made a white chocolate, pistachio and passionfruit frozen pudding. It was so easy to find all my ingredients that were top notch quality at affordable prices. The choice of brands and variety of items was fantastic along with the fact you don't have to line up in long queues and can avoid the crowds at all cost! I’ll definitely be back for more Christmas grocery shopping.

In this season of life as a young mum to a toddler and a baby, my priority this Christmas is on simple yet delicious dishes using high quality local produce where the flavours can really sing (and which don’t require me to stand in the kitchen all day!) I popped into my local Stirling IGA, where the staff including the owner Richard went out of their way to help me when I asked for advice on selecting a ham on the bone. With their expert advice, I chose a beautiful cut of Princi Western Australian ham on the bone. It’s premium produce and I love knowing I’m supporting local food businesses and farmers. I glazed the ham at home using my home-made apricot jam, cloves and pineapple juice, and cooked it low and slow for about 2 hours at 150 degrees. It doesn’t get much more simple that that. As for the taste…
it’s absolutely sensational of course! Thanks Stirling IGA!

I went to my local IGA to shop. The range of products was fantastic. It was well stocked and the products were all nicely presented. They had a great range of products in all areas from the fresh fruit and veg to the meat and Deli section.
I decided to make a charcuterie board for Christmas. I found new products to try and some family favorites. Quite a few of the things I needed were on special too.
The cheese fridge had so many products & surprisingly stocked quite a few local cheeses from the Yarra valley.
I really enjoyed shopping at my local IGA.

A simple chicken and veg roast is a staple at our table on Christmas and IGA provides fresh quality at affordable prices. The chicken was absolutely amazing value costing me only $4.30 ($2.95 a kg). They weren’t the biggest but at that price you could purchase multiple. The vegetables were all fresh and again were all at affordable prices. I was able to pick up a potato bake seasoning mix and some gravy. IGA had everything I needed for my meal and it was all easy to locate. It was a pleasure shopping at the Ballarat East store with a wide range of festive products, affordable prices and friendly staff. I will be back!

We had our annual work Christmas lunch party for the volunteers and staff last Monday. We were told to bring lunch and dessert to share. I popped into IGA with a few festive snack ideas in mind and walked out feeling wildly accomplished. I made ice-cream sandwiches, hot honey ham finger sandwiches and candy cane pretzel bites all from one shop. The variety of ingredients was genuinely impressive, from everyday staples to fun, seasonal bits that make hosting easy and creative. It’s the kind of place where you go in for one thing and leave inspired. Perfect for last-minute entertaining or when you want to make something a little extra without running to multiple stores.

I was able to make a festive Christmas meal with purchasing a beautiful leg roast lamb that was baked slow in the oven with roast potatoes and a side of gravy. To continue the festive feels I purchased a chocolate sponge, cream, strawberries, custard and jelly to make a triffle for dessert that my while family to enjoy.
Would I buy from IGA again maybe yes the store I went to had a good range but not alot to choose from in fresh meats but I found 5je store staff very helpful as I did have some issues with a few stores not accepting the e card voucher and the one O attended took some time to sort it out so that is something that needs to be looked at as alot of stores don't accept this as payment.

We had our Christmas family gear with the in-laws tonight. After shopping at IGA I was able to purchase very fresh veggies potatoes, carrots, pumpkin , corn , broccoli for our roast pork that I also purchased there, it was only $22.79 and it was huge and enough to feed 12 of us. I also bought a pavlova which I whipped up some cream and berries for the top which was also purchased at IGA

The past couple weeks in Sydney have been hellishly hot and all our Christmas lunches people have gravitated to the cold items so for my “bring a dish” work event I made the most beautiful cold mediterranean pasta salad which housed delicious sun-dried tomatoes and macadamias that I got from the local IGA and folded through a spicy muhamarra dip. I was very pleased when it was the first dish that got finished and nice to get out of my dessert only stage of life.

My local IGA always has plenty to inspire a festive Christmas, and this trip was no exception. The store was full of fresh produce—beautiful meats, fruit, and vegetables—but I was looking for something extra festive. When I spotted the French macarons on special, I knew instantly that I wanted to try making my first macaron croquembouche.
Shopping was simple and enjoyable. The festive decorations throughout the store added to the Christmas spirit, and everything I needed was easy to find. Checkout was smooth as well, with friendly staff who made the experience even more pleasant.
For the croquembouche, I used a metal Christmas tree form, which I covered in gladwrap. From there, it was just a matter of placing the macarons evenly around the base and working my way upwards. I made a quick butter icing to help hold them in place. The whole process was surprisingly easy, required no cooking at all, and the final result was a stunning centrepiece. If you’re looking for a simple but impressive dessert idea, I’m sure you could do it too.

This festive season I decided to make a Christmas tree dip, and my local IGA made the whole process surprisingly easy and enjoyable. The store layout was simple to navigate, and the dairy section had an impressively large range of dips and cheeses. I ended up choosing two French Onion dips along with a tub of cream cheese—everything I needed was right there, and the variety made it easy to get creative.
Preparing the dip was straightforward. Because French Onion dip is quite soft, I mixed in the softened cream cheese to give the mixture a firmer texture. After combining everything, I wrapped it tightly in cling wrap and shaped it into a cone using baking paper. An overnight chill (or a brief freeze) helped it set perfectly.
On the day of serving, decorating was the fun part. IGA’s great selection of antipasto made it easy to add flavour and colour: halved stuffed olives, sun-dried tomato strips, and red cocktail onions created a festive look. For the finishing touch, I cut a star from the side of a capsicum. Paired with Jatz, water crackers, and mini toasts, the platter really stood out and made a cheerful centrepiece for a group get-together.
My shopping experience at IGA was just as positive as the cooking. I had an issue with my phone at checkout, and while one friendly staff member helped me, another quickly opened a second register to assist the customers behind me. Their teamwork and kindness created a genuinely pleasant atmosphere that even the other customers responded to.
Overall, IGA made both the shopping and the creating effortless and enjoyable. I’ll definitely be back for my next festive idea!

My local IGA, was a spacious store to get around. Easy to navigate where the basics of my dessert where in the store. Used Black and Gold, flour, sugar, oats, which made the Apple and Berry Crumble really cost efficient especially when the cost around Christmas time adds up quickly. I used a 800g tin of a well-known brand of sliced apple, as it worked out cheaper to buy that size rather than two 400g tins like I used to buy. I was originally going to purchase a fresh punnet of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries individually, but I saw in IGA they had frozen mixed berries in the Community Co range, which would definitely be sweeter than fresh as the berries are frozen at the time of picking. Not only using frozen berries worked out only a 3rd of the cost of fresh, they came in resealable bag, if I chose to not use whole pack (however, I did end up using the whole pack).
I always make the crumble mix part on Christmas Eve as it is a quick dessert to knock together, before the chaos and fun of Christmas the next day. So before I clear away all the torn-up Christmas wrapping of the morning, I assemble the crumble and bung it in the oven to cook.
It’s my go to ‘partially healthy’ Christmas dessert, minus the choice of cream and custards, that takes no brain power to whip together, one that I will continue to do for years to come, particularly when the staples are of the Crumble are always easy to get at IGA.

With Christmas just around the corner, I wanted to get ahead and test out a couple of new recipes so I could change up my normal ‘safe’ menu for Christmas Day.
I selected to make a Christmas ham with pineapple pantry glaze and a Mango Tiramisu, I found the recipes on the IGA website. Very simple to follow and both tasted delicious! The ingredients I got from IGA were tasty and everyone who ate the dishes commented on how delicious they were, in particular the quality of the ham was a repeated praise with the family.
I grabbed everything I needed for both dishes from Ritchies IGA Taren Point in the one single shop and with two kids under 5 the ease of not needing to shop across multiple stores for ingredients was fantastic.
Both recipes now that I’ve tested and tasted them both will be going on my Christmas Day menu!

I was not expecting much from the little IGA at Leumeah, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a selection of Christmas hams! I picked the biggest one I could find and a selection of veggies for roasting and oranges and rosemary for decoration. After preparing the ham, I made a brown sugar glaze and 2 hours later my shop stopping ham was ready. Many at our Christmas party were wowed by the sight of the ham, and even more gave me raving reviews of the taste - not too salty and perfect with the chosen glaze. It was served with roasted cauliflower and potatoes and was truly delicious. At the end of the night an almost 6kg ham was demolished. Thank you for the opportunity to try an IGA ham.

‘Trust Your Intuition’: How To Advocate For Your Child In Hospital
Mother’s instinct is a funny thing. At home, we trust it without question. But put us in a hospital setting with an unwell child, surrounded by doctors, nurses and monitors, and suddenly we start doubting ourselves.
What if I’m overreacting? What if I’ve got it wrong?
So we stay quiet, even when we know something just isn’t right with our child. I’ve been there myself – when my usually ‘tough’ son was doubled over with stomach pain. I was told in the emergency department that it probably wasn’t his appendix. But I knew he wouldn’t have begged me to take him to hospital unless it was serious. Because I know him better than anyone. Turns out, it was appendicitis.
It’s a really common place for parents to land. You’re grateful for the care your child is getting, but at the same time, you feel this huge responsibility to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
Here’s the thing though: that instinct you’re feeling? It matters more than you might think.
Why your gut feeling matters more than you realise
According to Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital, Leticia Jackson, parents bring something to the hospital that no test or machine ever could.
“Parents often say they ‘just know’ when something isn’t quite right with their child, and in a hospital, that gut feeling is incredibly valuable,” she explains.
Leticia Jackson, Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital
While medical teams rely on observations, tests and equipment, parents know the little details. The way your child usually smiles. How they react when they’re tired. What’s normal for them.
So when something feels “off”, even if everything looks okay on paper, it can actually be an early warning sign.
“When parents trust those instincts and speak up, this creates a powerful partnership that can sometimes catch a problem before it becomes an emergency,” Leticia says.
Worried about speaking up? You’re not alone
A lot of parents hesitate about advocating for their child.
You don’t want to come across as difficult. You don’t want to question the people caring for your child. And sometimes, you just don’t feel confident enough to push the issue.
Leticia gets it.
“It is completely understandable for parents to feel hesitant,” she says. “No one wants to be seen as difficult or to second-guess the hardworking people caring for their child.”
But here’s a helpful way to look at it: you’re not challenging the medical team, you’re helping them.
Parents are the constant. Staff change shifts, care for multiple patients, and rely on snapshots of information. You’re there the whole time, noticing the subtle changes.
“Our medical team doesn’t view a concerned parent as overreactive, but as a partner,” Leticia explains. “Your voice matters.”
Remember, we know our children better than anyone.
What to do if you’re worried: the Raise It process
If you’re in a NSW public hospital or health service and you’re worried about you or your child’s condition getting worse, there is a clear process you can follow called Raise It.
Raise It is designed to help patients, carers and family members get help fast if they’re worried about a change in their loved one’s condition.
Here’s how it works:
Talk: Start by speaking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.
Ask: Still worried? Ask to speak to the nurse or midwife in charge and request a Clinical Review.
Call: If you’re still concerned, you can escalate further using the Raise It process to get urgent attention from a senior health worker.
You don’t need medical knowledge. You don’t need to be certain. If you feel something isn’t right, or your child is getting worse, Raise It. You just need to speak up.
What should you actually look out for?
Sometimes it’s not one big, obvious sign. It can be small, subtle changes that just don’t sit right.
Things like:
Changes in breathing (fast, laboured or noisy)
Skin looking pale, mottled, or developing unusual rashes
Your child being unusually drowsy, floppy, or hard to wake
Confusion or behaviour that’s out of character
Pain that isn’t improving with treatment
Or simply that feeling that your child is getting worse
And sometimes, it’s just that gut feeling you can’t explain.
That’s enough.
“You are helping us, not bothering us”
If there’s one message Leticia wants parents to take away, it’s that you aren’t bothering the medical team, you’re helping them.
“In my years as a Nurse Unit Manager, I can say with absolute certainty that many critical changes in a child’s condition have been identified first by a parent. While our clinical staff are highly skilled at performing regular observations and interpreting data, parents are the only constant presence who truly know their child’s baseline behaviour, personality, and what is normal for them.
“I have seen numerous instances where a parent’s insistence that their child is “just not themselves” – despite vital signs appearing relatively stable – has prompted a deeper clinical review that uncovered everything from early signs of sepsis to a life-threatening respiratory crisis.”
The Raise It process exists because healthcare teams know how important parents are in keeping children safe.
“Speaking up doesn’t mean you don’t trust the team,” she says. “It means you’re partnering with us to make sure nothing gets missed.”
And if you’re still worried about being judged?
“Whether your concern turns out to be something or nothing, your instinct to raise it is always valid.”
As a parent of a child with cystic fibrosis, I’ve learned to trust my gut when something doesn’t feel right. We’ve had a few experiences where we’ve needed to go through different channels to raise concerns or frustrations with the hospital system to make sure our daughter got the care she needed. It’s great to see programs like this encouraging families to speak up, because parents often know when something isn’t quite right.
As a parent of a child with cystic fibrosis, I’ve learned to trust my gut when something doesn’t feel right. It’s great to see programs like this encouraging families to speak up, because parents often know when something isn’t quite right.
This is so true from my experience over the years.
No matter how wonderful the medical team is, if you have any doubts speak up as a mother knows her child better than anyone.
Yes and amen to this article ! I agree with always follow your gut, you know your child like no one else does. In fact you are your child’s expert and should never stop advocating for them or speaking up. Sometimes professionals are very good in waving concerns away, all it takes is a human who listens
Even as a healthcare professional, when I took my soon to the ED when I was concerned, I felt awkward about speaking up, worried I was making a big deal out of nothing (even though i would never tjink this about a patient’s family if the roles were reversed). The message in this article is so important. Always stick to your guns. Always speak up and advocate for your kids – they can’t do it for themselves.
And honestly, some medical staff are idiots. I vividly remember the night two doctors huddled over my son’s lung x-rays. I hadn’t been allowed to accompany him to have them taken as I was pregnant. They finally told me solemnly that they were preparing to do emergency surgery as there was something in his lungs – “we don’t know what it is, but it’s definitely man made”. I took one look at the x-rays and asked if they’d taken off the battery packs for his cochlear implants, which were pinned to the back of his shirt, before the x-ray. And of course they hadn’t, and of course that’s what appeared to be in his lungs. Honestly!
I have learned many times to always listen to your gut and speak up when you don’t think something is right. This article was a great read, our kids are our world and if we don’t feel they are getting the right help, and we feel it, we need to speak up.
You should never second guess yourself when it comes to yours or your childs health- or anyones for that matter. Go with your thoughts. It is natural to want to protect a loved one especially when it comes to health situations, and the feeling you get when you think you didnt do enough to advocate or fight for them…it is not a kind or nice way to feel. Many people have ended up being heartbroken and picking up pieces for years because of feeling they didnt do enough.
A very good and informative article. I have read so many stories about mums just knowing when things are not right and demanding second and third opinions until they got the right answer. Sometimes mums just know. It is our job as care takers of our families. Listen to your gut!
Years ago, I spoke up for my 14-year-old daughter, but my concerns weren’t fully listened to. I’ve always wished I had pushed harder. She was sent home without much testing, and two days later, she passed away.
So, if you ever have concerns—no matter how minor—please speak up and keep advocating. Trust your instincts; they are there for a reason.
This is so important for parents to know how to raise it further if they don’t think their child is receiving the medical support they need! I know this article refers to the NSW system but other systems have similar procedures just with different names. I know in QLD it’s called Ryan’s Rule.
It’s so important to follow your gut instincts and express your concerns indeed. I have never hesitated to advocate for my children in various situations and I don’t care what other people think about it. Not all doctors and medical staff appreciate it when you question them, I’ve experienced that it may result in angry indignant responses.
How true this is! While nurses and doctors are the medical professionals doing their job on the daily, we know our children better than anyone and what is ‘normal’ for them. I would always speak up if I had noticed any changes in my child’s health and encourage other parents to do so too. No question is silly!
This really is such an important issue and a good topic to discuss with people, I am often surprised that people are worried about being judged. This is not something I care about; the priority is for the care and health of everyone is my family. Parents know their children and need to work with health professionals for the best outcomes for their children.
This is such an important issue to raise, and no one should ever feel ashamed, nervous or that they are being OTT for advocating for their kids, themselves or loves ones in hospital. In QLD we have Ryan’s Rule. A three step process where your concern will be escalated if they believe the patients condition isn’t improving or is worsening.
I have never been afraid to advocate for my children and partner and extended family and also friends. It is so important to listen and to trust intuition. When people have not listened, I have persevered and kept on with insisting on care and making sure they truly listened and took action.

Lovely dinner options and fresh food. Great bread and cake range. Easy to access and available at hours others aren’t. I recommend IGA whole heartedly and am pleased to make it part of my shopping routine.

An extra festive Xmas with IGA
I decided to make a charcuterie board for Christmas. I found new products to try and some family favorites. Quite a few of the things I needed were on special too.
The cheese fridge had so many products & surprisingly stocked quite a few local cheeses from the Yarra valley.
I really enjoyed shopping at my local IGA.

Devine Lamb and Festive feels Triffle
Would I buy from IGA again maybe yes the store I went to had a good range but not alot to choose from in fresh meats but I found 5je store staff very helpful as I did have some issues with a few stores not accepting the e card voucher and the one O attended took some time to sort it out so that is something that needs to be looked at as alot of stores don't accept this as payment.

Colourful Macaron Croquembouche! 🎄✨

Christmas Tree Dip

Crunchy Christmas Crumble
I always make the crumble mix part on Christmas Eve as it is a quick dessert to knock together, before the chaos and fun of Christmas the next day. So before I clear away all the torn-up Christmas wrapping of the morning, I assemble the crumble and bung it in the oven to cook.
It’s my go to ‘partially healthy’ Christmas dessert, minus the choice of cream and custards, that takes no brain power to whip together, one that I will continue to do for years to come, particularly when the staples are of the Crumble are always easy to get at IGA.

Christmas prep with IGA
