For the bilingual family, or those who would just love their child to learn a second language, the LeapFrog 100 Words Book – English-Chinese with Learning Activity Guide is a great place to start.

Interactive Language Fun

Join animal friends Turtle, Tiger and Monkey as you explore 100-plus vocabulary words. Touch the pictures on each colourful page to hear the animals say words and share exciting facts and sound effects. Immerse your child in bilingual play by sliding the language switch to hear the words, songs, and instructions in Mandarin Chinese. Touch the pictures to hear silly sound effects in Fun Sounds mode or press the light-up star button to hear two learning songs.

The included 32-page Learning Activity Guide provides parents with hands-on activities and teaching tips to help children get the most enjoyment and learning out of this bilingual book. Using everyday items, parents can help children make connections between the concepts and vocabulary and real-life actions and objects.

What Mums Are Saying

@BowtifulChescaDoll (Mum to Chesca, 2 and Gabby, 6): “It’s great educational material for bilingual children and even parents to learn and recall some of the basic words, phrases and songs in Chinese (Mandarin).  I also highly recommend this for older children who will learn a lot of basic Mandarin words from this book.

“Chesca listened to me as she touched the correct pictures of each corresponding word I asked for in English.  When she switched to Chinese mode, I asked her to touch each picture again and repeat what the book said in Chinese. She did so well in listening to my instructions.  I love how this book keeps her engaged in learning both languages while being attentive!”

@Brayjoe828 (Mum to 4 children): “Dion had so much fun exploring 100 plus vocabulary words in English and Chinese.  I love how with the slide of a button your child can immerse in bilingual play.  This will help them build a strong and solid literacy foundation.”

bilingualkidspot.com: “Kids can either be immersed in bilingual play, or for families with a Chinese and an English-speaking parent, each parent can use the book in their native language.  With Chinese being one of the most spoken languages in the world, it is fast becoming a popular language to learn for English speakers.

“Learning a second language while young is so much easier than learning as an adult, when children are able to distinguish better between sounds and therefore, they are able to imitate and pronounce them more easily.”

For toddlers aged 12 months and over, the 100 Words Book – English-Chinese with Learning Activity Guide is available from Big W.

  • It is so important to learn a second language and the younger you are the quicker you learn!

  • My daughter would LOVE this. We are very lucky that she has a passion for learning and what an advantage to be able to speak a second language. Wǒmen hěn xiǎng yíng!

  • Bilingual is an important part of growing up, having friends and helping break down language barriers. Any help for children is important

  • Learning a second language is great for brain development in children. I’d especially love to win this prize because I’m of Chinese background, but sadly my Chinese is not good enough to teach my girls. I would love for them to learn, and surprise my mum with some Chinese!

  • The very early years are the optimum time to learn a second language and any additional language is amazing.

  • Learning a second language when young stimulates kids to learn and gives them skills to use once they get to school. When doing it in a fun way makes them enjoy the process. Plus you can have your own codes when out.

  • The first few years of the little ones life is crucial to their development. Their minds are like sponges and their is no better time than now for them to develop and pick up a language skill.

  • I’ve seen how well my niece is able to communicate with different people by learning a second language. Plus my sons best friend is of Asian backgrounds

  • I think learning about other cultures and languages is super important. I’ve travelled all over the world & wish I had learned a second language. I want my girls to experience everything they can in this life

  • My miss 6 loves a challenge and loves to play with educational toys. To be able to speak a second language is such an advantage. If she showed an interest in learning more Mandarin I would organise her lessons as it is so much easier to pick up when young.

  • As a parent of asian descent, I am shamefully only very fluent in the English language. Winning this competition would be great for me and my child where we can both learn together the Chinese language! This would benefit both mother and child, winning! This would also be a great introduction to language for my second child who is almost 3 months old! Never too young to start learning!

  • A second language learnt early on is worth its weight in gold

  • Picking up a second language at an early age is easier than as an adult. Knowing a second language is also an advantage when travelling and for career.

  • Giving my child the opportunity to learn a second language is a step towards a better education and opportunities in life.
