WIN 1 of 20 copies of the novel Where the River Runs by Fleur McDonald, thanks to Allen & Unwin.

Ten years ago, thirty-year-old Chelsea Taylor left the small country town of Barker and her family’s property to rise to the top as a concert pianist. With talent, ambition and a determination to show them all at home, Chelsea thought she had it made.

Yet here she was, back in Barker, with her four-year-old daughter, Aria, readying herself to face her father, Tom. The father who’d shouted down the phone ten years ago never to come home again.

With an uneasy truce developing, Chelsea and Aria settle into the rhythm of life on the land with Tom and Cal, the farmhand, who seems already to have judged Chelsea badly. Until a shocking discovery is made on the riverbed and Detective Dave Burrows, the local copper, has to tear back generations of family stories to reveal the secrets of the past.

Chelsea just wants a relationship with her dad but will he ever want that too? Or will his memory lapses mean they’ll never get that opportunity?

  • Roald Dahl
Imagination that captures everyone for example The BFG you would think Giants are mean and horrible but when you get to know one they turn out really friendly and lovable. Cares for children and gives them sweet dreams.

  • Liani Taylor. She takes you to a world like no other and really makes you believe you are there. She writes fantasy, full of adventure and excitement, with sadness included. Amazing.

  • DAPHNE DU MURIER..HER BOOKS ARE SHROUDED IN MYSTERY AND ONCE STARTED CHORES ARE FORGOTTEN

  • cassandra clare – created this phenomenal series of books that I love

  • I love Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The brilliance of his creation (Sherlock Holmes) is unparalleled in this universe! And I just love a great murder mystery!

  • I don’t have one in particular, but I have always enjoyed John Grisham. Nothing is ever as it seems and keeps you guessing until the end.

  • I really like any Australian author, especially those who write about the outback, family sagas, pioneering families.

  • Mary Higgins Clark because she writes suspenseful stories.

  • I have read a couple of Fleur McDonald’s books and have throughly enjoyed them.

  • Roald Dahl. He is such a great writer and not just for kids. His books inspire the imagination and encapsulates the wonder of a fictitious world we can all dream of

  • Kathy Reichs because her stories are based on fascinating life events. Her novels are intriguing, suspenseful and full of action and incorporate fiction and facts. I’m fascinated by anthropology and her characters are relatable. The twisting of fact and fiction in a novel with adventure and danger leave me page turning and wanting more.

  • I have too many favourite authors to list here, I often try new authors to reward myself with something to immerse myself in. I look for a book that connects & draws me in making it hard to put the book down, it could be crime/mystery, drama or historical.

  • I can’t say I have a favorite author as my reading taste varies so much!

  • Jodi Piccoult, no author has ever made me feel such strong emotions whilst reading a book. I cry when I read almost every novel by her

  • Judy Nunn! She has a great knack for telling a story and keeping you interested.

  • My favourite author is Jodi Piccoult as she writes books with passion and intrigue yet respects the lives of her characters as she brings liveliness to each book she has ever written, bringing me to a world i may never experience on my own.

  • My favourite author is Monica McInerney as I really enjoy the melding of Aussie and Irish backgrounds like the author comes from. A lot of her novels follow on from each other but can be read without the others. Her characters usually face hardship but triumph over adversity.

  • Can’t say I have a favourite, but recently have been reading leanne Moriarty books which have been quite good.
