Aussie summers are filled with the sounds of kids squealing in delight, the splash of the pool, the thump of a cricket ball, the sizzle of the barbecue … and the annoying, high-pitched drone, and bite, of mosquitos. But this game-changing tool, which has just arrived in Australia, is about to change your summers forever!

Bug Bite Thing is a painless suction tool that helps relieve the nagging itch and swelling of mosquito bites in adults and kids aged over three. This compact tool is chemical-free, reusable and super easy to use and provides immediate relief – it’s a must-have for every outdoor adventure. You’ll literally never want to leave home without it!

Bug Bite Thing

Bug Bite Thing attracted worldwide attention when it appeared on Shark Tank in the US, and it’s become a viral sensation selling more than five million units in the US. And now, it’s arrived in Australia, just in time for those hot, sticky nights filled with mozzies!

Here’s a rundown of just how simple it is to use Big Bite Thing:

  1. If you or your child are bitten, just place the tool over the mosquito bite.
  2. Slowly pull up on the handles until you feel it suction, then hold it in place for around 10 to 20 seconds.
  3. Push the handles down to release the suction and you’re good to go!

Whether your family loves fishing, hiking, hitting the beach, camping or a hit of cricket in the backyard, Bug Bite Thing is a ground-breaking solution to one of summer’s most pesky problems – mozzie bites!

Why do I seem to attract mosquitos?

Do you feel as though you’re always being attacked by mozzies? You’re not alone! According to a recent Bug Bite Thing survey, 73% of Australians think that they’re ‘Maussies’ or Mosquito-Attracting Aussies. More than half of those involved in the study believe that body heat, sweat and body odour make someone irresistible to mozzies, while only 30% believe it’s blood type and just 10% think it has something to do with carbon dioxide.

So what is it that attracts these little blood suckers?

Wildlife Scientist and Bug Bite Thing Ambassador Ellie Sursara says mosquitoes are highly selective in their choice of humans – so perhaps you should actually feel quite privileged when they choose you!

“It’s a common misconception that blood type, body odour or even the foods you eat are what make you most attractive to mosquitos, however, the correct answer is the levels of carbon dioxide that you emit that puts you most at risk of receiving a bite,” Ellie explained.

“Understanding mosquito behaviour in greater detail can help you to take proactive steps to reduce your attractiveness to mosquitos and enjoy the warmer months even more.”

So Ellie has offered some great tips to try and minimise mozzie encounters:

  1. Wear Light-Coloured Clothing: Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colours. Opt for light-coloured clothing to reduce your visibility to these pests.
  2. Eliminate Standing Water: Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Regularly empty containers, such as flowerpots and gutters, to eliminate breeding sites.
  3. Install Screens: Use screens on doors and windows to keep mosquitoes out of your living spaces.
  4. Bug Bite Thing: Keep Bug Bite Thing within handy reach for quick and effective relief from mosquito bites. Its painless suction action reduces itching and swelling in fresh mosquito bites.
  5. Repeat: Repeat the entire process 2-3 times.

  • I had a similar one for my older 3 when they where small. Worked a treat but it gives a miniscule electric shock which is what removes the itch

  • I don’t no about this brand one but I’ve tried a different brand one and it left bruising an a little lump on my son’s skin so please be careful.
I do hope that this brands one is built better.

  • How very interesting!
We always have mozzie spray and roll on in the house as we back into a creek so they are always around no matter what season.

  • We use the regular repellants but this looks great too.

  • That sounds interesting. One of my twins gets a lot of bites and they swell up to the size of a 50 cent coin.

    • Aw bless that sounds serious ! Depending on the age of your child this may be something to seek advise of your GP

  • This sounds really good. The only thing is that kids may not be able to communicate when they’re exactly bitten and since it’s best to do it immediately after the bite, it could be useless. Not to speak about the many bites during the nights we’re unaware off till the morning

  • What an interesting concept. It’s great to have an alternative to the bug bite ointments that are available, they tend to contain some pretty nasty ingredients.
