The age at which kids begin talking typically ranges from 6 to 18 months. In general, there is no need to worry if your toddler isn’t talking and seems “behind”—even if they are at the older end of that range. Of course, if your child is 19 months and still not talking, you may be concerned, but this too can be normal.

Maybe your kids doesn’t speak word yet, but what about sounds ?

Absolutely get him checked out. Babies start babbling practically from birth. The fact your 16 month old isn’t even babbling is concerning

No babbling at all? I’d definitely get him assessed. Did he get his routine hearing checks? Don’t panic though. Even if his speech is delayed he might still catch up and be talking just fine by school age.

I would ask a doctor or health nurse if there is anything to be concerned about.

I would make an appointment with the child health nurse to asses and c what she recommends

Kids learn at different rates regardless of their age. If you’re really concerned though, maybe a chat with your child health nurse or gp will help

Every child is very different one of my boys did not really speak until he was 18 months old as he has a big brother who would talk for him….I would not worry about him yet, maybe you could encourage him to speak when you give him some food or getbhim a toy

Every child is different. My first was speaking sentences quite young, my 2nd more so but my third is now 2yrs and 3 months and is only now stringing 3-4 words together. I thought there was an issue so I went to our local childrens centre who have a CAFHS nurse there. She had me fill in paperwork and we had a discussion about my son. He is developing fine and they were not concerned. I do, however, know that try to interact and speak with your child as much as possible. You are their first social interaction and the way they will start to learn literacy will happen through you.
Lots of stories and have your child watch your mouth as you say words. Again he is only small and young but the more you talk to him the better he will start to understand that is the way to communicate.
If you are concerned though, please see a GP or CAFHS nurse. Please don’t ever think you are doing something wrong though.

If you are concerned, go see your child health nurse or a pediatrician to have him assessed.
There may not be any issues but there is no harm in getting a check.
