Hello!

“My 3 year old likes to sleep in our bed ,  she goes to sleep in her own bed but every night ends up in our bed. We are now trying a grow clock and a reward system which she is very excited about. But we have just discovered that she is sleep-walking into our bed through the night she is confused when she wakes in the morning to how she ended up in our bed and doesn’t get rewarded. Any suggestions would be a great help :) thank you”

  • All of my children slept in our bed till they were ready to go sleep in their own bed. It has never been an issue for us. If we wake up and find them in our bed, we just carried them to their own bed. Eventually they will actually prefer to be in their own bed.

  • Can you walk her back to her bed instead of letting her stay in yours?

  • Very good answers! There are really interesting comments on this!

  • Hi, I know how frustrating it can be to have little ones in your bed but really, don’t worry too much. They do grow out of it!
If it really bothers you though, the only thing is to persevere. Hard to do in the middle of the night when you really just want to sleep, I know! The reward system is a great idea. Maybe try calmly carrying your child back to their bed when they wander in without really waking them. Reward them if they wake up in their own bed, no matter how many times you’ve had to take them back through the night.
The tricky bits are getting to sleep in the first place, and staying there second – if you can tackle those, the bit in the middle will eventually sort itself out.

No matter what though, don’t stress. Having a 3 year old in your bed doesn’t mean you’re failing anything. Your sleep is important too so do whatever you need to do for you.

    Good luck!

  • my daughter is 3 years old and she will not go to her bed so she needs to be disciplined somehow but i dont know what to do. Good luck

  • maybe see someone about the sleep walking, as this can be dangerous. good luck.

  • you need to see a doctor about her sleep walking

  • How did you end up going?

  • my daughter screams when I put her in her cot :(

  • Wow, I’ve never heard this before! Have you tried to coax her back to her bed while she’s still asleep? We put a spare mattress next to our bed for a while for my daughter, but she was most definitely awake when she came in!

  • Hope you found some suggestions useful

  • might have to put a child lock gate to the door way of her room?

  • How is she going now?

  • My youngest still sleep walks every now and then. Not sure there is much you can do about it.

  • My daughter has done a lot of sleep walking in her time. I just walk her calmly back to bed and tuck her in.

  • Go to a GP for a checkup

  • U can’t do much coz she is not aware she is doing it.

  • sleep walking can’t really be helped. Just take her back to her own bed.
