Hello!

“I love your site. I would love to anonymously ask a question. My 5 1/2 year old still has bed wetting issues, we have tried not letting him have anything to drink atleast 1 1/2 hrs before bed, going to the toilet before bed but he still wets, we have tried getting him up through the night to go to the toilet but he won’t wake up enough to go. We have been told by paediatrician’s that until they are 7 and still wetting that they are not concerned. I am concerned and wondering if anyone has any tips. Thanks guys” Do you have any advice for a 5 year old wetting the bed?

  • Not sure on how to stop it aside from making sure they go right before bed and no fluids 1 hr before bed..

  • Pull ups are good for night time and it helps save you a lot of washing. My brother wet his bed until he was 13 and it was a really embarrassing time for him. it turned out that a receptor in his brain didn’t acknowledge when he needed to go and his body wouldn’t wake up like a normal person would, therefore he just wet the bed. my mum used to always think it was because he was lazy, but it was actually a psychological issue. He eventually adjusted and his body grow out of it, but it did take a long time. Hope it goes well for you.

  • How is your 5 year old going now?

  • Just keep doing what you’re doing. It will stop by itself eventually, they just haven’t yet developed self control in their sleep. Go to the toilet before bed, don’t drink too much in the evening and wear a night nappy. It will fix itself.

  • Dont make a fuss about it the longer you do the longer he will wet his bed and just get dry nites

  • Thanks. Thanks heaps ! Wondering this myself.

  • Hope you have it sorted now

  • Hoping you’ve seen some improvement since you asked this

  • Only small sips of water before bed, and put him in pull ups if you need to. I know how tiring it can be having to wash sheets every single day!

  • use a matress protector and try not giving him any drinks after a certain time
