Hello!

I’ve got a fire place in my house and the wall has been recently been renderred and now I want that to be painted. I’m just confused about whether the colour of wall should be the same or should keep one wall as different in colour. Thanks

  • I don’t think it matters if it’s a trend or not, it about whether you like it or not !

  • I don’t think it matters too much because you or subsequent owners can always repaint it if you want a new look.

  • Depends on the style of the house and what you like.

  • I’ve been watching House Rules 2018 and every zone in every house has a feature wall. They even use wallpaper or pressed metal. Not all of them appeal to me mind you

  • Do whatever YOU will love!

  • Absolutely – you watch those renovation shows, lifestyle channels and they all do feature walls.

  • depends on the room also. some small rooms get overshadowed by a feature wall so stick to white to brighten up the place and it also makes the space look bigger.

  • I love love love feature walls! They really make a stand-out statement, and could really make your fireplace ‘pop’ out and look divine!

  • you can get wall stickers now and can remove them if you want to freshen up a room’s look.

  • I like feature walls so many gorgeous colours to choose from too

  • I love the feature wall idea, but the fire place could be considered a feature, but a different colour could really emphasize the fireplace.

  • Most of the renovating shows on telly at the moment seem to do feature walls, so I would say they are still in fashion

  • I would say yes they are still in fashion as I’ve recently done my wall which also has a fireplace but unfortunately I cannot use the fireplace so what I have done is put a nice heater inside the fireplace and made the wall feature wall to lovely big pictures on the wall.

  • decorating can be a headache

  • Do what you want, if you like a feature wall go for it, its your house no one else’s

  • feature walls look great and are still fashionable in a lot of homes

  • A different colour make make a nice feature point in the room

  • I have a fire place and made that wall darker than the other walls in the room.
It’s my feature wall I love it I think rooms with all the same shade of colour are a bit boring and very plain.

  • Depends on the size of the room, what colours you’ve got & like, and what the room is used for. I like our fire-places in a different colour to the walls, but they still tone in with the colour of the walls (as in cream walls, with brown fireplace, etc). But I’m not a mad fan of really bright colours that would make the fireplace stand out like a sore thumb.

  • It depends on your taste. I don’t go in for the latest interior fashions as next year they’re out of style.

We also have fireplaces and we made them different to the walls, only because we see fireplaces as a feature in a room, you might have a different opinion, some people tile their fireplaces or dress them with those cast surrounds to highlight them.

We have a fireplace in our bathroom (used to be a kitchen about 80 years ago), previous owners built it in and used it as shelves, we pulled it out and now it looks like this: see picture.

Hope you find a solution you like with your fireplace.
