Hello!

“My 11month old and 2 and a half year old boy have picked up the hand, foot and mouth virus! It is horrible and painful and I hate that I can’t do anything to help them. Have been to the doctors and looked everywhere online to try and find anything I can do to help them but so far have sounds nothing. Anyone had any experience with this and found anything that helped?” Do you have any help or advice for hand, foot and mouth problems?

  • There’s no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Signs and symptoms of hand-foot-and-mouth disease usually clear up in seven to 10 days. A topical oral anesthetic may help relieve the pain of mouth sores.
Kids with blisters on their hands or feet should keep the areas clean and uncovered. Wash the skin with lukewarm soap and water, and pat dry. If a blister pops, dab on a bit of antibiotic ointment to help prevent infection and cover it with a small bandage. Make sure your child drinks plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

  • Unfortunately there is no treatment, maybe panadol for the flu like symptoms and pain management if they have sore ulcers in their mouths. Try and keep their hands and yours clean and wipe down anything that may come in contact with broken blisters as this is how it spreads. Also through sneeze/cough droplets

  • my son picked it up from day care also it terrible hope things have got better as my little mans seems to keep coming back.

  • It can cause them to very itchy, and a lukewarm bath with bicarb soda can help alleviate the irritation.

  • Unfortunately there is nothing you can do because it’s a virus. The body just needs to fight it off.

  • My brother is a GP and he said there isn’t anything you can do. You just have to wait for the sores to dry out. My daughter picked it up in day care from putting playdough in her mouth. Then passed it on to my other daughter.
