I used to sit in the bathroom with mine. Turn all the hot taps on high until the bathroom is filled with steam. Sit there until their coughing subsides. Make sure you change their clothes before putting them back to bed as they will be damp

Best thing I found for a croup attack…….head to the bathroom! Shut the door, turn on hot water taps and fill the room with steam, then sit in there with your child. You can also buy humidifiers. Just sit it in their room and turn on at bed time. Bathroom is great though

I am really sorry to hear your child suffers from croup. I remember the first time I heard of croup, my dad had us at the drive in, and my sister started ‘barking’ and had trouble breathing. He drove off in a crazy speed to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and she was admitted and placed into a tent.

Years later, I was having Christmas with friends and family, a total of 6 adults and 5 children. In the middle of the night all mums woke up to one of the kids ‘barking’. Wondering who’s child it was, we worked out it was my daughter. I put her in the bathroom, turned on the hot water and sat on the edge of the bath. Allowing her to breathe in the damp air. It worked, all her bronchial tubes were moistened.

As she would come into bad bouts of croup, I found an old electric frypan, filled it half way with water, and put in a teaspoon or two of Vicks Vapour Rub. The Vicks had eucalyptus and I put a towel over her head and made her breathe it in. It was always done in the bathroom so it was confined in a small room, so if she was too young to handle the towel, she could at least breathe in the eucalyptus, especially if the shower was running too for the hot steam.

My daughter had this, I found that I had to let her sleep with me, and gave her some pain meds so she didnt feel to sore

Honestly steam in a bathroom, a vaporiser and if it’s really bad ambulance. Every time I had croup as a baby I was carted away to the hospital for steroids. With a rash that’s bad you need to take her back to the hospital or doctor.

It is nasty, we used steam in the bathroom so often, the rash could be from the medication it will go away one these are stopped

Steam to open the air ways is the best thing. If having a bad coughing fit get them in the bathroom and run the hot taps in sink and shower and bath and roll a towel and place under the gap under the bathroom door to keep the steam in and steam up the room faster. A vaporizer is perfect for their room at night because it keeps the room with warm moist steam to keep airways open.

Croup can be a nasty thing, if it is a recurrent thing you get get a spacer with a Ventolin type steroid treatment, my son used to get it all the time

Warm showers are great – you can also get those mist machines from the chemist that help.

I think there is little you can do for them, it is something that will just clear up on it’s own.

My doctor said vaporizer and steamed bath room. just becareful for doing it too much can cause moldy wall.

try some lavender in the humidifier or eucalyptus
