Hello!

G’day to all. I am thinking of selling some items on gumtree. I was wondering if anyone has any experience; and could give me some advice.

  • I haven’t gone on gumtree but l am thinking it is not a bad idea and l have a few things to get rid of!

  • Yes , I only do local pickups cash only to be safe . A friend of mine successfully sold her old car for cash on Gumtree , and she made sure she was not alone . Always stay safe and know who are the genuine buyers .

  • I haven’t tried it yet, but I would be interested to get some advice also.

  • I haven’t experienced it myself but a lot of friends have gone from ebay to gumtree instead. it’s getting a lot more popular now gumtree.

  • Yes be very careful allot of untrustworthy people on there I’d rather ebay allot safer

  • Gumtree buyers are kind of unreliable. They tend to be making offers to lot of people at once, so you need to reply quickly. If you put off one buyer waiting for another, you will likely lose both.

  • try it!, most ppl turn of their phone when they have sold something and you can remove an ad anytime that you like

  • Gumtree is a great way to sell make sure you specify phone calls only no emails or text messages and don’t put your address on the add

  • I love Gumtree. Buy and sell on there all the time. I don’t always have people come to the house, will meet at shopping centres or post. PayPal is a great way to get paid, especially if you’re posting goods (not sure why there was a cautionary comment about it above). I use the app on my phone now rather than using the computer, quick and easy to list something or look for something.

  • I haven’t used gumtree but there’s a couple local sites on facebook, where I can buy, swap & sell. Remember to add as many photos as possible, as much detail as possible and you just sit and wait for the questions to arrive, or better still – the person with the cash.

  • I’ve never sold anything on Gumtree, however have bought stuff from there and all went well.

  • my Daughter loves Gum Tree ( we think she is addicted) but I do know some things sell really really quickly

  • Thanks for all your advice; I did sell a small Item on ebay however I forgot to add postage so the $2 I was going to make has gone on postage. Live and Learn.

  • I don’t put my phone number on ads. I’ve had people call or text as early as 4am in the morning enquiring about an ad!

  • Just try and upload as many photos as possible so they can see the condition of items

  • As long as you don’t mind strangers coming to your house it’s the best way to sell. If you are thinking about doing it a lot. Make a new email address & tell them you’ll meet them somewhere if you don’t want them to your house

  • It is a great way to sell. Just be careful if people want to pay by PayPal etc….. I have sold heaps on Gumtree and only had a few emails that were not genuine.

  • Gumtree is great to sell as it’s quicker than ebay but yes at the same time you will have strangers coming to your house and they won’t always come at the right time etc. I like facebook groups because at least most of the chatting is done publically so people can see what is going on. Be firm on the price and maybe even give away a few things and then you can link ads together.

  • I’d be firm with a price and say “firm” which tells them you aren’t budging on price.

  • It doesn’t matter what price you put on things, expect people to text, email or call to ask how cheap you will go. If you are willing, feel free to drop the price, but don’t feel bullied. Stand strong if it is an item worthy of the price tag. I often ask someone how much they would pay, if they ask how low I could go. Maybe try Ebay??
