I loved reading about “The Honest Toddler: A Child’s Guide to Parenting”. One my best book for parenting. The other book which I have read was Pinky McKay’s Toddler Tactics. Its all about discussion of typical toddler behaviors and practical strategies.

I didn’t bother with any parenting books. Just be like the rest of us and muddle through. Because I really don’t think there is a one book suits all, so find what does work for you

I have 123 Magic, but later found out there was a DVD option, which I would have readily taken had I have known. Some books can be very heavy reading, so if you can go to the library like others have suggested, I think you will save money. You can also hire DVDs from the library. I clogged up my shelves with a lot of unnecessary books before I discovered the library

Yes I heard Steve is against daycare under the age of three – says there is no benefit. I had no choice and my daughter started at 13mths, found her development afterwards was amazing – she watches the other children and started eating better and, interacting more. Hard to pinpoint exactly but she was very unsettled at home

if you want free and relatively new— GO TO THE LIBRARY! i would not pay for a self help or guidance book because i know that there is a free option.

I don’t think he’s controversial. He loves raising his kids and he’s against day care. Well, for some people that’s controversial!

Thanks everyone – I think I’ll look into all of these (I’m sure the raising boys book applies to having a husband too? (no sons yet) I heard steve biddulph is ‘controversial’ ? Any complaints regarding this?

If you have a boy raising boys is excellent for both parents

I used What to expect when expecting and then my mum bought me the follow up books, What to expect in the first year and What to expect in the toddler years. Extremely helpful. Love them. Another one I have found absolutely invaluable is Raising Girls and I am about to buy the Raising Boys, they have great advice for how different genders perceive different things and how to handle certain situations. Love love love them.

Hi! Do you know Steve Biddulph? I’ve read different of his books and I find his way of advocating positive parenting very rewarding.
You could check at the local library. They could have something.
I’ve read “Love, Laughter and Parenting” and “The secret of happy children”.
He also wrote two very interesting books called “Raising girls” and “Raising boys”.
