Hello!

Hi mums, I’m thinking of a holiday in NSW and QLD over the xmas break and would like some advice on cheap affordable places to stay with my 3 kids and activities that are age suitable 20, 16 and 8. Any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks.

  • The Blue Mountains is great for all ages – lots of hiking tracks and beautiful cascades and waterfalls.

  • What area would you prefer? The coast or inland? Do you want to see the popular, busy tourist spots or visit the quieter but still lovely areas?

  • In NSW Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour have lots of camp sites and lots of theme parks and activities for families.

  • Never been, can’t recommend anywhere, but hope you all had a great Xmas break there anyway

  • Cairns qld coconut holiday resort. They offe a pay off option if you like and they have an awesome park for kids of all ages!

  • just go for cheap accommodation and you should be ok. camping is good for even just a few days. beachside is lovely

book in advance and places that are owner operated are the most flexible for prices so lock it in over the phone

    use trip advisor website

christmas is an expensive time to go anywhere and winter is better for accommodation prices if you are not going to the snow

  • Merimbula is great for all ages and lots of caravan parks around with good cabins and camping space for a reasonable price. Close to beaches, fishing spots, cafes etc so lots to do

  • I’m not sure on places to stay but Wollongong near Sydney looks lovely. Great pools and beaches, bike rides.

  • The bigger chain caravan park cabins are good value, however travel at the wrong time and the price goes up and like anywhere it can be crowded. Try and stay in outer suburbs, or country towns, self catering is always cheaper and we used to find Farmstays or house rentals good value for money. Activities: Seek out the zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, nature walks, botanical gardens, museums etc..where you are staying. Check out What’s On (online) in your preferred area, you can pick up some good free activities or ideas. Don’t forget a lot of inner cities have a free city bus that you can hop and and off at your leisure to check out different tourist attractions.

  • Definitely check out umina holiday park near Gosford!! It’s fantastic and so much for the kids to of all ages, for the big kids there is the beach, go karts, pools, water slides, shopping, surfing etc and for the eight year old they have a fantastic park inside the park and also a great council one just outside. Jumping pillows, water park. You can even stay in (like we did) in the safari tents which are awesome like camping, but with homely comforts of beds, toilet, hot shower and little kitchen, they have a BBQ so you don’t have to eat out. We loved it there and can’t wait to go back. The other place I would suggest is Port Macquarie, we have a great time up there too! So much to do and such a relaxing place! Good luck on your search!

  • We camped at Hervey Bay for six weeks every Christmas. Great getaway…and minimal $$$ spent. Most of our days were spent on the beach building sand castles, fishing, swimming or collecting shells and cuttlefish.
