Hello!

I am an avid reader and I love collecting books and my bookcases are brimming with books. I have run out of storage space for my books! I would love any creative suggestions for the storage of books. Happy for ideas that are creative and different and outside the square! Thanks from a bookworm!

  • I love the idea of cutting a bookshelf into the wall

  • I’ve had to box up some of my favourite books.

  • I don’t think I can top the suggestions already made.

  • Why don’t you read the ones you done need to keep and donate them to the nearest charity shops and the you can buy cheaper ones at the same time . I only keep books that I know I will want to reference or if I read it over and over again . Someone told me keeping too much paper in the home breeds mice and cockroaches so be careful of that one . One you sortthem out perhaps dedicate a room with bookshelves just for your books .

  • Great ideas! We recently ran out if room so we had to bid some up and put them in storage at my sisters house as I don’t have the heart to throw them out :(

  • Thank you Mom94125 & Lepumpkinhead for the photos and thanks to all Mom’s for the terrific answers and ideas, a clever and creative bunch of people! :)

  • Use a coffee table, it looks awesome and you can still grab and read them whenever you want

  • MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BOOKS ARE AIR TIGHT AND PUT CAMPHER WITH THEM TO KEEP BUGS FROM EATING THEM

  • Stack them up to the height of a sideboard and then cover with a table cloth… then you can put more books on your new sideboard :)
    …nothing beats a paper book

  • Get a Kindle! I know you love books BUT I have 2500 books on one kindle. They are AMAZING!!

  • Definitely book shelves or crates with sealed lids – this will keep them in tip top condition

  • in that first pic that i posted, i am pretty sure that it is on a tower set-up as well but it is so full that you can’t really tell.

You can stack them without the tower though (which the person in my original post has done) Maybe put in some shelving and stack a small pile or get a low laying cabinet and stack away! Good luck!

  • these are towers that you can buy to stack books in for a bit of stability in case you have kids or pets. Not sure where you buy these though. Maybe look on ebay. Maybe you could get a handy person to make something similar

  • this isn’t the exact pic as i saw it on pinterest and i do not own this pic or anything. google “book stacking tower” and there are many ideas. This is my first attempt at posting a pic here so i hope it works :)

  • Have you tried using the space under the stairs? You could find a lot of ideas in Internet.
I’m also running out of space for my books. I should give away books I’m never going to read again and keep just the ones I absolutely love.

  • I have double layers on my book shelves.

  • Thanks for the Kindle idea. I do love the look and feel of a book too! :)

  • Controversial – as I love paper books myself – but buy/download Kindle and download some of them. Keep the books on the shelf that are not available digitally.

  • MOM94125 do you have a photo of this book stacking idea? Would love to have a visual of the books. Thanks for this idea. :)

  • lol good question. I was thinking that i need another bookcase now as i have a chockers one and books stored in plastic boxes. I saw a really good idea which would work if you didn’t have kids BUT the person has just stacked one book on top of the other and made a tower from biggest books on the bottom to small ones on top. They made 3 and had a nice picture on the wall behind it and made their books into a feature. It was so cool and cheap!
