Have a funeral/memorial service for it! Tell her it’s had its time and now it has to go and rest. Chuck it out!

My kids both had dummies and although they only used them for sleeping we wanted them gone around the 2/3 age too. We got our kids to give their dummies away. One of my kids gave her dummies to Santa to give to the baby reindeers – we left them in a basket with his treats and my sons dummies were left out for the Easter Bunny to take and replace with Eggs. May not be the best way to do it, but it worked for us. You just have to make sure you get rid of them all and don’t keep a “spare…..just in case”.

Thanks ladies! we have been talking about it lots and she seems to like the idea of a dummy fairy (she loooves fairies!) so we might need to try this!!!!

I used the “dummy fairy” with all my kids
we lit a candle and put the dummy next to it and said the dummy fairy will take it away for a baby because your a big kid now and she leaves some gifts or big money to go shopping.
It was more successful when it was done close to a special occasion.

I had the same problem with my 2nd child, my husband wanted it gone by the time he was about 3 yrs old but I didn’t care either way. We tried bribery, replacement with a cuddly toy & also just took it away all with no success. In the end I decided it really didn’t matter if he still wanted or needed the dummy as long as it was gone by the time he started school. We give them a dummy to comfort them as newborns & it works wonderfully until it is time to give it up, each child is different but they will decide when it is time to give it up. Unless it is causing a problem does it really matter if they hold on to it for a while longer because a 3 year old will not understand why it has all of a sudden become taboo. Is there a reason that she has to give it up or is it just because you want that to happen, sometimes it is not worth the fight nor tears it causes if it is just a “want” on behalf of Mum or Dad. Preschools as a rule do not require them to let the dummy go & will just ask you to attach it to their clothing. Don’t take this as a criticism as it is merely my experience with 2 children now all grown up, my 1st son gave it up without fuss or even being asked while the 2nd child was not giving it up for anything. At 3 yrs old it can be a challenge as their personality becomes more obvious & they start to fight any changes they don’t approve of. Good luck with it all. 🙂
