Hello!

I’ve just been given a pressure cooker and I really don’t know what you do with them and what I can cook in one, but excited to give it a go. I hear they are fast to cook in. If anyone would care to share what you make in your pressure cooker. (Super packet ingredient recipes welcome as I use a lot of those as a base and add my own twist to them) it would be much appreciated. Thanks MoMs

  • Don’t be like me and freak out as soon as it starts cooking.


  • when we were younger my mum had a pressure cooker it was frightful the noise it made when cooking was finished others of my generation may tell u horror stories that the evening meal ended up on the ceiling because the cooker exploded ,they still sell them u can find many recipes on the net if u have a computer good luck with it


  • Timing how long something will take to cook
    This is where your cooking intuition generally goes out the window. Don’t let that freak you out. Cooking time will vary depending on the PSI of your low and high pressure setting of your electric pressure cooker. You should refer to your electric pressure cooker manual for the general cooking times of whatever you want to make.


  • My mother used to use a pressure cooker all the time and usually used it to cook cheaper cuts of meat. I was always frightened of it though, especially when steam was shooting out of the top vent.


  • Pressure cookers are a item I’m too frightened to use. Probably heard too many bad stories when I was young.


  • They are fantastic! Cooks delicious meals in half the time. Things to be careful of……the steam when you release it. Make sure it’s not going to get you because it will burn!


  • Well when you get a great recipe please share with me, I too have a pressure cooker I received at my Wedding and I have never used it.


  • The omly advise i can give is if any recipe calls for you to use honey in it to stay close by while cooking… I have a all in one and every time i put honey it seems to start burning very quickly(its easy to save by taking out within of minutes of it happening and cooking in the oven from then on, but it defeats the purpose of using the cooker))… So my advise is to stay close by or totally clear of honey while using it….


  • Usually secondary cuts of meat work really well and tend to just fall apart when ready to eat. You could also make really good broths or stocks by adding meat with veggies and water, wine and whatever else you usually like to cook with.


  • I’ve got the Philips All-in-One Cooker, that functions also as pressure cooker. I love using it to cook pulses, rices and soup. This soup is fantastic using the pressure cooker. https://mouthsofmums.com.au/recipe/african-peanut-soup/
    You can saute’ directy in the pan and then close the lid.


  • Just follow the maker’s instructions. I only use mine for making soup as it’s quicker than on the stove, but perhaps you might get some tips on other uses from this season’s Masterchef.
