We are going through this now. We’ve had the keys2drive lesson and have paid for some professional lessons and are now starting to take over. It’s going to take time to get comfortable, but we’ll get there.

We paid for a couple of professional lessons to start with, just to teach them some basics and get used to being behind the wheel. Then we took over

BREATHE!!!! Most important!!!! Don’t be jumpy with your kid, as they will feel jumpy and really unsure. Try not to get too frustrated, as it could just make your kid feel emotional and like they aren’t doing it right at all. Just take things slowly. Go into an area where there is next-to-no traffic OR on a property… Just be patient, calm and breathe!!

Remember what it was like when you were learning to drive.
How nerve racking was it!
Your son is going to be nervous, but not wanting to show it.
Be patient, encourage him. Maybe start off somewhere were there is not a lot of traffic.
Let him know if he feels its to much its okay to pull over & stop for the day or have a breather.
Do your research, road rules are changing all the time, make sure you’re up-to-date on the current road rules, you don’t want to risk misinforming your son.
He may get panicky & lose his cool. Remember its not intended, he is scared.
Best advice is patience.
This is a terrific bonding experience for the pair of you & you should cherish this time you will get teaching him a lifelong skill.

My mum took me for my first lesson to an empty car park rather then straight on the road!

Stay calm- if he doesnt feel confident doing something let him know its ok and teach him, take him somewhere else first so he can build up his confidence then let him have another go. Always remind him he isn’t going to be perfect in his first few weeks.

Hubby started to teach lessons but the arguments were out of control so I booked 6 lessons & now hubby & child are driving together & its peaceful

I’d have to agree with the advice given. Pay for a couple of lessons to get their confidence up and then that will help keep your stress levels down! haha

What we did is, when they first got their Ls, we paid for a couple of professional lessons. The professionals get them a little bit of confidence in a car on the road, teach them a few basics, how to operate it all. We all felt a bit calmer when it came to mum and dads turn to teach
