Hello!

Does anyone know if using frozen packet veggies is as good as using fresh ones in cooking?

  • I think you’ll find that nutritionally they are just as good but the flavour is not the same. Handy to keep some in the freezer for those times you can’t get fresh.

  • Have heard that in some instances they are better as they are snap frozen and the nutrients are locked in rather than some fresh ones that are then transported long distances, and you never know how long they have been in storage.

  • I heard frozen vegies are just as good as the nutrients are retained before it is frozen .

  • Frozen is better than tinned for sure. But they say fresh is best. Having said that we grow all our own vegies and what we dont use gets blanched and put in the freezer. They taste just as good as fresh .

  • I would say they are as they are snap frozen when picked. When you buy fresh they moght be days or weeks pld.

  • I have read that frozen produce is basically straight from the paddock to the freezer, so all the goodness is sealed in. Same with tinned fruits and veggies, just check what they’re stored in, syrups are overloaded with sugar

  • I buy both and never had any issue.

  • I once read that frozen vegetables like peas and corn (that I buy regularly) are actually fresher than what you can buy at the supermarket, because they’d been frozen immediately after harvesting.

  • Also; I puree and keep vegetables in the freezer and add to meals and sauces.

  • I constantly use store brand frozen peas and McCains mixed veggies on sale, more for convenience and have found them very good for week night cooking.

  • They are both good and frozen vegetables are so handy for meals and cost effective too! There is no spoilage with frozen vegetables. I use a combination of both fresh and frozen.

  • I have read that fresh is always best, however very little is lost by freezing, and surely when things are not in season and very expensive frozen is a better option than no vegies, especially when it comes to fussy children who will only eat certain vegies, also the convenience and lack of waste by using frozen vegies need to be taken into consideration as well.

  • Depends on the brand and season, I use both frozen and fresh

  • i use a bit of both in cooking

  • Yes, if they are snap frozen, then they are better for you than those “fresh” fruit and vegetables that have been sprayed and sitting in cold storage for months.

  • I think they are. There are certain vegies I keep in the freezer all the time – peas, beans and corn. I find the flavour is not compromised in those. I don’t like eating other vegies frozen simply due to flavour loss.

  • Yes – I tend to add them later than I would fresh veggies so they don’t overcook and go soggy

  • Apparently they are better than fresh

  • Frozen veggies are as good as fresh ones but I find they have more advantages than fresh veggies as you can store them longer, it is easier to mix them with other veggies and they taste very nice. I use a lot of frozen veggies in my cooking, I love it.

  • Actually they are better. As they are frozen soon after harvesting they retain there nutrients. Often the vegetables you can get in the supermarket are up to a month old and have lost a significant proportion of their vitamin and mineral content.
