I think it depends on the child. For me as a child I went to one meeting and hated it. I was a very shy child and really couldnt cope with all the songs and to me …silly things they had to do. My friend on the other hand loved it.

I was a girl guide but it wasn’t that much fun

To be honest, I went to GG and our troupe was LAME! But it was all about the leader and ours was very inexperienced. My friend went through a different one and they did all sorts of cool things.

It certainly sounds worthwhile and interesting.

My daughter is a current girl guide and being part of this global organisation empowering girls and leading them into being strong women is a great thing. Promoting community and service, guides gives girls a sense of belonging and ownership over their own lives and the capacity to build greatness in others. Self sufficiency and resilience are wonderful attributes for any one and this organisation helps foster that in young women. National and international guiding builds lifelong relationships and opportunities otherwise not presented. I am so happy for the opportunities presented for my daughter. Give it a go and let your girls decide if this is for them.

My kids loved going to Brownies and Guides and eventually Rovers – they didn’t want to continue further than that but I have known many who have and who have travelled the world being accepted in many places and in homes under the banner of this movement.

Girl Guides is fantastic! It empowers girls to grow into strong, capable, respected members of our community. They do so many things- it’s not just cookies and sewing. There’s community service, abseiling, camping, bushcraft (survival), as well as arts, crafts, and adventure.

Both Girl Guides and Scouts are fantastic orgaizations. For a yearly registration and termly fees, your children can experience so many activities, meet new people and learn many skills they can use later in life. They can also go on to become leaders in their own right, travel throughout Australia and the world. No, it is definitely NOT lame.
