Hello!

Thinking of visiting Gold Coast and Brisbane next month with a 6 year old child. Wondering is there any kid friendly fun places to take him in the city area? First time going there so would love to hear any suggestions. Thankyou.

  • If you haven’t booked your accomodation yet check out what has kids activities integrated. There are heaps of choice, especially on the Gold coast. Sea world is a bit out of the way but you can get packages that include access to several of the theme parks and breakfast. Paradise resort is like a water park in itself and its walking distance to the beach. Consider if you want to move between locations. There were a few spots closer to mermaid beach that had a lot activities for kids at a friendlier family price.

In terms of activities – beach!! Apart from major attractions that many have already listed, there is time zone which our kids love almost as much as us, markets, there’s a few cat cafes around. I believe brisbane has a sensory experience called bubble land or something like that. Depending on when you are travelling the communities and councils there both arrange some pretty incredible events that are low cost or even free. I believe Brisbane had a Christmas in June or July coming up.

  • There are so many! In Brisbane you could go to Daisy Hill Koala Sanctuary – there are lots of wild kangaroos there to see that are pretty tame and they also have the koala area where you can view them up fairly close. Southbank is great too – go on a Sunday and you can enjoy the markets as well as the ‘beach’. On the Gold Coast there is Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, and if it’s during the warmer weather there’s GC Aqua Park, a water based obstacle course that does have a kiddie area also if your child is a little less adventurous. At the Logan Hyperdome there is also a great place for bowling that also has laser tag – my kids loved it! There’s a cinema there too.

  • Heading there next week and initially thought this question was a bit silly, but the answes are great, so apologies! I was expecting theme parks to be the answer, but that’s so much more and lots of it I haven’t heard of before! Thanks for the tips and suggestions!

PS also Pacific Fair Shopping Centre has a drop and shop service… aka drop your child while you shop stress free!

  • Gold Coast: Bella’s wonderland is great! Wiggleworld at dreamworld, Currumbin wildlife sanctuary. Blueys world in Brisbane. Redcliff settlement cove.

  • It is always well worth researching events and places online when a visit is planned. We find deals and offers for accommodation, activities, food and other valuable deals and offers. Online visitor information sites have helped us out many times with providing information and discovering interesting places to visit that otherwise would have remained unknown.

  • There’s loads of awesome places! On the Gold Coast there’s Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Put Put Golf – various places, SeaWorld. Brisbane, there is Southbank, which is great to go on a Sunday as they have the market there, so something for you as well as just a great place for a swim. If you venture as far as Ipswich, they have Queens Park, which is a free animal park and playground, that hosts a variety of Australian animals and has a walk in bird aviary.

  • Southbank in Brisbane is a must do with kids as there is always so much going on. It has a wonderful man made beach that looks glorious and cooling in the hot weather. BBqs or picnics. gardens to wander through. The big wheel to ride on. Google it, amazing place..

  • Some ideas in Brisbane
Bluey’s World at Northshore Pavilion (Coming Soon) …
    Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. …
    Roma Street Parkland. …
    Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. …
    Playgrounds in Brisbane. …
    Urban Xtreme. …
    Treetop Challenge. …
    SparkLab,
and not to forget Hologram Zoo (Hologram zoo is a family entertainment centre just like a normal zoo except all the animals are hologram projections made out of laser light)

    Gold Coast:
There are so many things to do for families and kids, honestly. From the beach, to Theme Parks, Currumbin Sanctuary, Infinity, Surf School, SkyPoint, ThunderBird Park, Ripleys Believe it or Not, Surfers Paradise Time Zone (Massive), Tree Top Challenge, Aqua Park, Whale Watching, Rainforests and Glow Worms.

  • There are plenty of exciting and fun places for a family to visit on the Gold Coast. We found the Gold Coast catered extremely well for families and offered family passes to theme parks and to other attractions. We found moving around the Gold Coast easy with plenty of good signage.

  • Sea World in Gold Coast is a must! In Brisbane, South Bank Parklands and the Queensland Museum are super kid-friendly. Your 6-year-old will love it!

  • The GoMA has activities for kids. The gold coast has all the theme parks. Lone park koala sanctuary. South bank park lands. There are so many fun activities, it really just depends on your budget and transportation options.
