Hello!

We want to ask a teenage neighbour to babysit for us, but not sure how much to pay. What are your suggestions?

  • I’ve never had my kids babysat for, but when I was a teenager, my friend and I got paid $10 an hour. That was 15 odd years ago though.

  • My teenage daughter used to get paid $25 for an evening’s babysitting.

  • yeah i would think about $10 is ok.

  • Interesting suggestions – might have to rethink what we pay – I think we were/are overpaying.

  • If you’re looking at a teenage neighbour id say $10 per hr is enough.

  • Check out babysitting sites for fees.

  • I agree if its a teenager $10 to 12$ a hour is enough if they havent any qualifications, as it cash in hand they would be happy for some pocket money. But you might have to agree on a minium payment., eg if you have asked for 5 hours but end up back at home after four etc…

  • We pay our teenage babysitter $10 per hour and generally round it up (so if we have been gone just over 4 hours I will give her $50). I think $10 is quite cheap; I have friends who pay anywhere from $10-$20 per hour.

  • Depending on the age of your child , I would check with your neighbour if they have any experience in looking after kids . If your kids are older and it is just simply babysitting while you go to a movie , I think he/she will be happy with some pocket money . Usually qualified babysitters who are also nanny that look after the home have qualifications and they are not cheap. Hope it works out for you .
