I agree if its a teenager $10 to 12$ a hour is enough if they havent any qualifications, as it cash in hand they would be happy for some pocket money. But you might have to agree on a minium payment., eg if you have asked for 5 hours but end up back at home after four etc…
We pay our teenage babysitter $10 per hour and generally round it up (so if we have been gone just over 4 hours I will give her $50). I think $10 is quite cheap; I have friends who pay anywhere from $10-$20 per hour.
Depending on the age of your child , I would check with your neighbour if they have any experience in looking after kids . If your kids are older and it is just simply babysitting while you go to a movie , I think he/she will be happy with some pocket money . Usually qualified babysitters who are also nanny that look after the home have qualifications and they are not cheap. Hope it works out for you .
