Hello!

My husband has been working 3 weeks out of every 4 in Brisbane. He only flies home on a Friday night and then back out to Brisbane on a Sunday. The disruption to our home life has been a huge adjustment. We are considering relocating to Brisbane to bring our family unit back together. We have two gorgeous little girls (age 4 and 3). Our oldest has started kindy this year. I am really torn about pulling her out of her fantastic kindy here, and moving to Brisbane where she will have to form new friendships again. All of our family are here also, so we are leaving them all behind. Can I ask the wonderful Mums out there who live in Brisbane area, what suburbs on the South side of Brisbane have the best public schools and what areas I should definitely avoid? I am hoping to choose a suburb that meets all our needs and expectations now, so that sending our oldest off to school next year is an easier transition. Thanks!

  • We now moved from Calamvale to Algester, which is also a nice suburb

  • We’re in South Brisbane and live in Calamvale and our kids go to Calamvale Community College. We love it there.

  • Good luck with your search. I’m sure you’re all settled and sorted by now :)

  • Best to get onto schools websites and take a look at schools information; they can provide a wealth of good information; which may assist with choosing schools.

  • Mansfield (4122) Catchment is the place to be, the Mansfield Primary and High School are GREAT!!!!

  • My sister lives at Redland bay & it seems like a beautiful place. I’m not sure if that’s near where you are looking for as I am from Sydney, but I noticed that one of the other ladies commented saying stay away from Logan, which is about 40 minutes away from Redland Bay. They call Logan “Bogan Logan”, so yeah, I would probably stay away. HAHA. But the bay is beautiful and my nephew goes to a their local school and it seems to be fine :) Good luck.

  • i cant help because i am in another area. but i hope you find something good soon. wish u best of luck

  • There are a lot of areas on the south side that are big no nos lol. I used to live in Springfield Lakes which is gorgeous but quite a distance out of town. I am a northside mummy myself with 2 little girls. Would you not consider the northside? Chermside, Mitchelton, Ferny hills, Everton park are all beautiful. There are a lot more nicer, greener areas. Whilst saying that it also depends whether you want to rent or buy. If you go southside I would stay away from Inala, Logan and forest lake areas (sorry to anyone in those areas, that is just what i have heard)

  • My sister and her family used to live in Logan, and she said that although there would have been some lovely people living there, in 3 1/2 years she didn’t meet any. And apologies to anyone reading this who may live there and be a nice person, but my sister wouldn’t move back there if you paid her to. It doesn’t have a good reputation.
