Hello!

I need to set up a home calendar for the family and all of our appointments, events etc and would like to know what apps you have tried and love or dislike. I know there are a few out there but I would love to hear from other mums what ones you use and swear by.

  • In addition to my comments below about hard copy planners and hard copy organisers; we also use a variety of different coloured markers to use with them. We colour code activities and appointments and other entries in planners and calendars and diaries. Everyone also has a colour for their individual entries.

  • My hubby set up GroupCal for us to use. It’s great as you can set it up for multiple members, i.e. hubby and I both have the app and are both able to see the same calendar. If either of us adds an appointment or event, the other member gets a notification instantly on their phone, so everyone is kept in the loop.

  • We use the Family Wall app, it’s free. It links all our phones together with an Invite, can colour code kids sports and appointments for each person. Everyone gets a notification when an entry is made or adjusted. It’s been really easy to use even my teenage son adds in his sporting events and physio appointments without our help.

  • I would be interested to hear what others think about this too. I can’t seem to get my family to write on a calendar etc so thinking an app might be best.

  • For a number of reasons we have remained with hard copy planners, calendars and diaries. We like for everyone to have a hard copy visual of menu plans, chores, appointments, activities, etc. We prefer to have hard copies for everyone to see because then everyone knows what everyone is doing.

  • A close family friend of mine recommended Cozi Family Organiser. She has teenage kids and coparents so uses it to manage sporting commitments, the custody calender, when kids are working, etc. She said there are lots of ads but it is good in that you have all the info in the same place and it’s simple to use and colour coded. Hope this helps 😁

  • Not an app but I love Google calendar, I can set reminders in advance and notifications. I’ve used a few check list apps, for that satisfying buzz to check off your tasks. There are a lot of different ones out there, some more minimalist in design than others. We are looking to install an acrylic planner on the wall, they look more stylish than a white board

  • id say it depends if you, your family, your partner are on top of recording all these events and details down, just need to find what works best for you, whether it be paper or app.
or more of deciding who is in charge of recording it all, for example for my family, i generally take on the job or recording everything, and i prefer just on the calender on my phone,
i dont think its one fits all situtation

  • I agree with BellaB, I prefer far more the good old fashioned paper planner in a good size with space for all family members above an App. I use a monthly one and have it hanging in the inside of a kitchen cupboard. I have a friend who has a monthly white board planner which is pretty cool too

  • I have tried multiple apps, and I’ve truly found that nothing beats the trusty paper calendar in the kitchen. I struggle to get my teens or husband to update an electronic calendar or app, but for some reason they’re fine with the shared paper calendar. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s true!
