Hello!

Hi Ladies,

I have recently started a Sunday tradition where I make pancakes for the family every Sunday morning. I would love any quirky tips on what you do to make them extra fluffy and if you add anything different to your recipes. I have Googled ideas and made a few different varieties based on recipes I have found but would love to hear your suggestions.

  • i love to smash a ripe banana into the batter and skip and added sugar, it makes the pancakes smell that much better and the ripe banana’s sweetness, yum. on bonus days ill add a few choc chip in for the kids. if you able to have seeds or nuts, i love to add sesame seeds too

  • We generally use the shake pancakes with lots of different cooking variations for our oven pancakes – blueberries, chocolate chips, honey swirls, snickadoodle (my absolute fav which is simply cinnamon sugar on top), tinned apple pieces or grated apple and cinamon sugar, sprinkles, just about any baby puree, tinned pear and ginger, sultana and oat, etc.

  • I literally just posted a recipe that is pending. You know how youa re still flipping when your toddlers ahve finished eating anr you missed all the fun of loading up toppings and secretly judging your husband for his choice of toppings? My little mum hack is cooking on a cookie tray or cup cake tins for no flipping! When we use the muffin tins we decorate with choc chips and/ or frozen blueberries for a full sensory activity that you can eat. Makes for very happy toddlers. I have been trialling fluffy pancake recipes in the oven for a flip free solution but have not found one yet.

  • Last Christmas Coles made gingerbread pancakes that tasted so nice. So maybe try making them with their ingredients:
Water, Pancake Premix [Wheat Flour, Sugar, Canola Oil, Non Fat Milk Solids, Raising Agent (Sodium Bicarbonates, 450, 541), Buttermilk Powder (Milk), Wheat Starch, Egg Powder, Ginger (0.5%), Cassia (0.5%), Barley Malt Flour, Preservative (Sodium Propionate), Salt, Emulsifier (471** From Palm), Natural Flavouring]. No idea what quantities and how. Good luck

  • try adding blueberries or strawberry

  • I’m not a big fan of pancakes but I know my mum once tried to add bananas to the pancake mix. I was not good so I don’t recommend that at all!

  • I love Nagi’s recipe on RecipeTinEats, it’s my go to recipe. They are fluffy and soft, and a really easy recipe. No buttermilk or fancy ingredients. It’s a great base to then add all the lush toppings once the pancakes are done so nothing weights the pancake down during the cooking process. Highly recommend!

  • Along with using buttermilk in my pancake mixture, I also love to add thinly sliced banana or berries to my pancakes. The combination of buttermilk and fruit is so delicious and everyone in our family loves these pancakes. Another tip is to not overcook pancakes and keep a very keen eye on them at all times when cooking.

  • Reading that made me want to eat that pancake.

  • Not so much in the making, but a while ago I bought (from Aldi) a pancake pan which makes ten small ones at once – and they each have a different silly face on them. My kids love the faces, and being able to make ten at once is handy if you’re feeding a number of kids.

  • I always use buttermilk in my pancake mix because it gives the pancake mixture a good fluffy texture. The taste of fluffy buttermilk pancakes is also incredibly delicious too. Buttermilk is easy to source at the shops and is available at a reasonable price. I use butter when cooking buttermilk pancakes too.

  • Man, can you adopt me? Where do I sign up to be a part of your family? I love pancakes, but unfortunately, the rest of my family aren’t overly enthusiastic for them. The best thing I’ve found so far that everyone likes is a box of pancake mix you can buy at the supermarket – not sure on brand sorry! Made really fluffy pancakes and everyone actually ate them. Also, my mother in law uses a crepe maker and hers always turn out perfectly and the kids seem to prefer her pancakes.

  • That’s a lovely family tradition indeed ! I don’t bake pancakes on Sunday, but pancakes are eaten here for breakfast once or twice a week for sure 🙂 To make them extra fluffy it can help to separate the egg yolks from the egg white, mix the egg yolks through the batter and beat the egg whites till stiff and add them as the latest. Also using butter milk instead of normal milk helps to make it fluffier. Instead of using butter milk, I use kefir as well (as I always have that at home)

  • Sounds like a great sunday tradition! The smell of gorgeous, warm pancakes in the morning – definitely should be a candle scent! Instead of using water for the mix, ive heard of people suggesting soda water instead to create that more bubbly texture. Keen to hear what others think too! Good luck
