Hello!

I just wondered if anyone can give some tips to keep the kids focused on revision for end of year exams. OR does anyone have any tried and tested revision tips to pass on? Thanks.

  • Don’t leave most of the studying to the last week!

  • make it fun. pop off questions to your child randomly and see if they remember the answer.

  • Lots of sleep, a good well balanced diet and take regular breaks. You don’t want to burn out before you even sit the exam. Study groups are a good way to stay focussed

  • Practice good routines with a little bit of study every day (irrespective of homework tasks) as study is different to homework. We even did study on Friday nights – just less of it. Try to make time for each subject at least once a week and don’t be afraid to talk about areas that are difficult with teacher/tutor. Try to get the child to treat study as their responsibility such that the results are their responsibility. It is hard, and every little bit counts – be supportive about every bit achieved. Remind them that a little every day is far more productive than a cramming session once a week.

  • I was hopeless with exams, did all the revision but when it came to the crunch on the day my mind went blank every time. Hope you are able to find what you are looking for.

  • I have my kids make study notes after each topic has been taught that way they are ready for study for end of year exams. I’ve always found that 30mins study at one time is enough followed by a 30min break ( I use this method weeks before exams), the week before exams my kids revise for an hour at a time but with only a 20min break but for no more than 3 hours without a good 90 minute break. Ensure they are getting plenty of rest and are eating atleast 3 meals a day
