Hello!

My grade 3 son is behind in maths and literacy but more behind in maths. What apps can you recommended that are free to download? My son loves his ipad but not a fan of educational learning so I’ve made a deal of 30 mins each day on ipad during school week.

  • Does your school supply any apps/logins that they can use at home? My kids both have reading Eggs and Mathletics log-ins from school that they are encouraged to use at home., that way you don’t need to pay anything (as they’re usually paid apps) Maybe have a chat to the teacher and see what they are using at school? or what he/she recommends for his current level.

  • Try 10on10, they are having a promotion giving free books ending tomorrow, they got maths and Words module

  • you can get apps for this. reading eggs is good! schools use that program

  • My daughter uses Mathletics – they have lots of different activities and you can play games with people from all over the world.

  • I would suggest asking the school for recommendations. They will know the best apps for your child.

  • You could try mathseeds which is part of the ABC Reading Eggs website/app or the Mathletics website is good too.

  • Have you asked the school teacher? They usually have some pretty good ideas. Study Ladder, Skoolbo and athletics are all good, but I think they come at a cost. Some workbooks that are excellent are the Fitzroy Program ones. I think they have some available as apps now – they are Australian and EXCELLENT!

  • Let’s see.. In primary school my daughter used a lot studyladder.com.au
There are a lot of activities in different areas and my daughter always had a lot of fun.
There was a math site too, bought through the school for something like 5 dollars a year I think. Let me check through my daughter old stuff.
    Found it! mathletics.com.au
You were getting special certificates depending on your achievements and I’ve got them all.
In Year 3 I remember she was using a lot one website that helped her with the time tables. It was very well done and free. Found it! It was this one
    http://www.multiplication.com/games/all-games
I hope it all helps! :-)

  • My daughter used to go on maths websites when she was in primary school and used to love doing the maths activities. Unfortunately I can’t recall the names of the sites, but I’m sure you could google “primary school maths activities” and find some suitable sites.

  • What a great idea. Unfortunately, I have no idea so cannot help you. But I love the deal you have done with your son, that’s one way to achieve a result!
