Hello!

Hi everyone!

I had a call today from a Kindergarten this morning to tell me that my daughter has been accepted in 4 year old kinder for next year. (Yay!) My daughter was born in January so she’ll be 4 when she starts.

Last year, we put her on the list for three year old kinder this year, but we were too late, so she didn’t receive an offer/place. As a result, We thought, oh well, she can just stay home with me and her younger sister and practice her speech etc and we’ll just go to playgroup once a week until the year after when she goes to 4 year old kinder. That was the plan.

This morning on the telephone, whilst we were advised that Lina had been accepted into 4 year old kinder next year, we were also advised that a place has a recently become available for 3 year old kinder for the rest of this year, and as we’d missed out, was wondering if we wanted to enroll our daughter for the rest of this year in 3 year old kinder to prepare her for 4 year old kinder next year. She could start as soon as Monday!

So now I’m confused about what I should do.

Either way she will go to 4-year-old kinder next year. But should I put her in 3-year-old kindergarten for the rest of this year? Or not. My concerns are:

1. The kids already there already know each other
2. Maybe she’ll feel like she’s behind
3. I don’t know if I or she is ready

Thanks!

  • It all comes down to if she, personally, is school ready.

  • How did things turn out for you and your daughter?

  • I would put her in and see how it goes.

  • i would put her in, it’s ony a couple of months. Worst comes to worst pull her out. But if you started a new playgroup now it would be the same thing – new people etc.

  • Were you happy with your decision?

  • You will know if She is ready

  • I would enrol her into 3 year old kinder. For all the reasons you’ve listed and more. Go for it, if she doesn’t like it, you can always pull her out til 4 year old kindy

  • What did you end up deciding?

  • Give it a go.
Have a trial run & see how your daughter goes.
Speak to the kindergarten & see if you can sit in for the first few times to so you can see how she copes & will help with you letting go.
If you wait until next year she may not be ready, this way you have had a try.
Don’t worry that kids have already formed friendships, everyone wants to know the new kid!
    Best of luck :)

  • Either way, she will face the same problems. You just have to decide whether to let her face them now or next year. Me, I’ld grab the chance, the earlier they’re socialised, the better

  • Why don’t you have a chat with the 3 yo kindergarten teachers and gauge their thoughts. Then if they think she is ready, have a trial run to see if you and your daughter are happy. You don’t need to make this decision on your own.

  • Give it a go with trial day and talk it up positively. New kindy bag..
How exciting, they grow up fast. Welcome the offer of a position, in busy cities people pull their hair out trying to get positions available.

  • send her to four year old kinder :)

  • Aka the, if you can do a trail time, ie see how she fits in.

  • It is really up to you and what you feel, it may benefit to help with the seperation issues now, then later and help assist in a routine for you both.

  • If your daughter has not been on her own in a group environment, I would suggest to expose her to that environment. It can be anything from a Playgroup or childcare environment. From either the Playgroup or childcare setting, you should be able to gauge if she is ready for 4 year old kindy. My little one is starting kindy next year and she never attended 3 year old kindy. However, she is attending Playgroup and childcare. From these settings, I feel comfortable with her being in kindy next year because she has shown signs of wanting to play with her friends by herself and looks forward to going each time.
