Why don’t you paint a piece of ply and attach to the wall. I’m sure your son us nearly old enough to learn the difference between the walls and his blackboard space.

I think it has it’s pros and cons. I wouldn’t worry too much that your son will think he can draw on all walls, it’s easy to teach that only this special wall is for drawing like you teach a child to draw on the paper and not on the table.

I would suggest against it because of the dust from the chalk. It goes everywhere. I have chalkboard paint and plan to paint a piece of wood and put it outside. Also it sounds like fun but then they get over it and it would take a lot to cover unless your walls are already dark

I agree with Mel1. An easel chalkboard can be moved around both inside and outside the home.

I must admit I would be a bit hesitate as how to you explain to a young child that it’s ok to draw on that wall but not on another. I would go for a chalk board

This is a wonderful idea. Our family G P had a half wall of the waiting room painted with chalk board paint and children were always so content with this. I did half the wall in my sewing room and my kids loved it as did their friends. We moved when my son was a baby and I painted half doors to laundry, storeroom and the kitchen. All were accessible from our patio and my kids never drew on walls. They and their friends loved using them. All of my children are also very talented artists, I do think,having this freedom of expression available from a young age has assisted in this development. I also let the kids use white board markers on the sides of the deep freezer and the fridge door. Sidewalk chalk is also fun for concrete paths.

You get “shoe stretchers” in the shops or online to use.

put a border around it so it looks like a real chalkboard and refer to it as the chalkboard, problem solved.
trust me when i say you will love it he will love it his friends will love it other mums will be jealous.
it will be used for years and years to come even when he is a teenager.

I think they are smart at 2 and if he does it once elsewhere he will know not to do it again.

I can see where your partners coming from, but I think it’s a great idea and if you teach him to only draw in the certain area it should be fine:)

What if you put a boarder around the section Maybe bub will work out that you can only draw in that section.

i’d start small for now with an easel style one and once he is a bit older to understand he cant draw on all of the walls maybe paint one then

It would probably be confusing for him. Also if you have carpet the dust will stain it. What about the tradition fold-up easel type blackboard? My kids had one of those and loved.I used to put it under the pergola so no chalk dust on the carpet.

Maybe paint a piece of plywood so that he knows that he can only scribble or paint on that.

I think chalkboard paint walls are very messy – the chalk powder still goes everywhere. But at 15 months I don’t think he’ll understand why he can draw on one wall and not the other.
