No I haven’t heard about day care for shift worker. I live in a mining town with a lot of shift workers. I think it would be interesting if there is a demand.
You can apply for in-home care – where a qualified child care worker comes to your home. You still get child care subsidies etc, so if you’ve got more than one kid it may actually be less than a child care centre. Ring whichever of your state departments deals with child care and ask. They’ll tell you how to apply.
I am a nurse and do shift work. I had to drop my hours a bit and spoke to my boss to get set shifts or a rolling 2-3 week roster at one point. I do my nights thurs and fri every second week as my husband does a 9 day fortnight and could sort out the girls on fridays. Daycare opened at 6 so dropped them off then went to work for 7, and if i was on a long day my husband picked them up. Ifs hard juggle but you will find your way
Well it will be hard to place kids in child care in the evening and nightly hours. Maybe family day care could cover more alternative hours, otherwise an au-pair or approaching family members could be an option
I’d check with your workplace and see if they have some child care on site while you are doing shift work (some of the larger hospitals will accommodate this)
