Hello!

It is our turn to host Christmas breakfast this year. We normally make a french bread out of Pannatone and serve with fresh berries and cream. This year, however, I would like to do something a bit different. I am looking for a range of different ideas so I can do a sort of buffet style. What decadent out of the box ideas can you throw at me?

  • I don’t usually do a breakfast but my friend does and it’s a tradition in her family that they have ham and eggs, fresh fruit, mangoes, cherries, peaches, plums etc and champagne and orange juice. What a way to start Xmas day.

  • Along with the pancakes and muffins I mentioned below; we also buy lots of sweet and delicious seasonal fruit. We love to buy lots of seasonal fruit for the Christmas period for people to snack on and to enjoy at breakfast and throughout the day too. It is such a good time of the year for fresh fruit.

  • Love all the ideas – pancakes, waffles, croissants, etc. We love smoothie bowls, but it’s hard to do that for a large group and be able to sit together to enjoy. I would take some inspiration from it. Top winners would be the Biscoff sauce, Nutella sauce, Biscoff crumbs and Oreo crumbs. Pisti sauce has been a hit and miss for us.

  • We do like to mix it up and do different things for breakfast and this year we are going with a sweet treat breakfast. We are going to make pancakes and have a variety of toppings and sauces to go with them. We are also going to make a selection of sweet muffins and pastries too.

  • So many fab ideas! I’m loving this question and I’m now really hungry lol!
We have toast with ham and eggs and a huge fruit platter with mango, cherries and lychees. It’s just tradition and everyone looks forward to it. I would love to try something different eventually especially after seeing all these ideas

  • We’ve made a pancake bar our Christmas breakfast tradition. I make red and green pancakes and we have a variety of fresh fruits, spreads, cream, ice cream, sprinkles, etc all out for the kids to do up their own Christmas pancakes. It’s been a hit and they absolutely love it. It’s so much fun!

  • Something you can largely prepare the night before! I love the idea of the waffle bar below, easy to prepare, delicious and great use of leftovers! Fairly straight forward on the clean I as well. I get excited for a variety of fresh quality fruit… aka not from the supermarket. All slides up and presented well. Yuuum! Don’t forget the drinks! Iced tea, even cold infused mint and cucumber water!

  • I love nothing better than a buffet breakfast when we are on holidays or staying in hotels. To keep it easy you could go for just the cold items like pastries, cut fruit, bircher muesli, yoghurts and other little mini puddings. Any way you do it it will be a big job in the morning so good luck.

  • We love making our own waffle bar. We have bowls with fruit, sprinkles, chocolate, berries, ice cream, and all sorts of toppings…. whatever you can think of. We make waffles a d everyone gets to add their own topping. Kids love it. Left over toppings get used on the mini pavlovas later on!

  • Warmed croissants with a variety of gourmet jams, honeys and so on can be great for a crowd (add something like nutella if you want, and consider chocolate croissants). Scrambled eggs isn’t really decadent, but it’s easy to do for a crowd. Honestly, anything you can add fancy toppings to (like waffles or pancakes) probably works.

  • I absolutely *love* the cheese and bacon breakfast strata cake on RecipeTinEats. I add spinach and browned mushrooms cooked in garlic for some extra flavor. Its a really great breakfast casserole and you can scale up to feed loads of people. I like to serve it with some roasted cherry tomatoes on the side. To me it’s a really moreish, filling breakfast that looks fab on a table

  • Oh how fun to be hosting a breakfast! Perhaps like a breakfast type style buffet/platter that people can just pick and choose what they want? Different breads, spreads, and fruit. French toast and different toppings on the side. It’s so fun! Sort of like a hotel breakfast at yours to really make it feel festive

  • I am going to make home made sourdough bagels this year and swirl in some red and green food colouring to make them a little festive. We will also have croissants and berries with pancakes. OMG my mouth is watering just writing this and now i can’t wait for Christmas to arrive.

  • I second the danishes and pastries. But I also cannot pass up a hot breakfast – hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, tomatoes, mushrooms etc.

  • My eyes light up when I see a breakfast buffet that includes a variety of danishes and pastries. I also love to see fruit salad, bircher mueslis and chia puddings.
