Hello!

I know this will vary across Australia, but can you donate new presents for children at Christmas still? Our local Geelong charity sends to only be found money donations for the Christmas tree appeal.

  • Local shopping centres usually have a toy donation. Or you could try Kmart. They usually have their Christmas tree out the front for toy donations. Have you tried searching local community organisations like Salvation Army or St Vinnies?

  • Yes you can! There is usually a kmart wishing tree out front of every store you can purchase toys and place them in. Otherwise big W’s also have their bins at the front entrance of their stores that accepts donations of new and used toys for children as well. Good luck!

  • I’ve seen a lot of Christmas toy donations at stores lately. There’s one at my local Big W, Woolworths and Kmart, like others have mentioned. Contact your local stores and see if they are also doing toy drives. I’m very keen to grab a few extra pressies and put one under each tree

  • Yes. Kmart does a giving tree (although I think they insist you buy the gift at Kmart). Our local primary school does one, as does my husband’s office. A local radio station does a drive. Multiple charities do drives as well; although some of them are local, Vinnies, the Salvos, and most churches are all local. And your local hospital!

  • There are lots of different community things where you can donate toys. If you want to do something a bit different, there is also Operation Christmas Child, which allows you to fill a shoe box with needed items (you get a list) and they are sent overseas. I believe Kmart usually has a Christmas tree to donate too.

  • This is always such a lovely gesture. Kmart do a wonderful job with their wishing tree and I think trusting the Salvation Army with the delivery & sorting of them is a good choice. If you want something close to you I would ask on local pages. In our town our local L J Hooker office, and Health Fund have donation trees too.

  • Kmart is running its Wishing Tree Appeal 2025 where you can take new gifts into any Kmart store. The gifts do not need to be purchased from Kmart, but they must be new. Look for the Christmas Wishing Tree in store and place a sticker on your gift. The gift should not be wrapped so that when the Salvation Army collects the gifts they will know what it is and who to give it to.
