Cleaning routines? - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

How do you keep your house clean? Do you have a regular schedule (ie was the sheets day, clean the bathroom day etc) or do you just do it when you have free time and it needs doing? I would love to be more regular so it didn’t build up to one big day or two of work.
Love to know if you are more of a little each day or save it up for one big day?
Has anything helped you?

  • To keep on top of a house with a toddler and a cat I do little pieces every day. I try to do a quick vacuum daily to keep on top of the hair everyone drops. The dishwasher runs twice a day, always last thing at night. Bathrooms and showers always were the most painful for me, but having a dishwand filled with shower cleaner has been the biggest help. Every couple of days I do the walls or the glass before I jump out.

  • We are just now starting a new routine. After a nice long discussion we decided on a regular chore each and from Friday to Sunday you have to pick one chore of a chosen list for that week. In addition they each have kitchen duty. I’m really hoping this will help decrease the need for big day clean ups as it’s being divided up regularly now

  • Yes, we work to a schedule. Our kids have a schedule for the jobs they’re responsible for (like setting the table, emptying the dishwasher). We make it easier by grouping like jobs; if it’s your day to empty the dishwasher, you’re setting the table too. Weekly jobs tend to happen on the same day each week to again make it easy for the kids to remember – eg we do laundry on the same day every week, so the kids know their washing hampers need to be sorted and ready.

  • The schedule we have is daily and the chores get distributed according to ability and age. It is so important for everyone to be responsible for cleaning the house and doing chores. Everyone cares about looking after the house in our family and keeping it clean. A daily clean means everything gets done and there is plenty of time to for other activities.

  • I found that in order to get the kids to help, having a bit of a routine helped. So, we change the sheets on Sunday, and the kids know that it’s part of their routine on Sunday morning that they need to strip their beds. Same thing with other jobs – they know what days they have to do what on.

  • We do a combination of clean as we go and we also have a daily schedule for cleaning. It is good to have a schedule as it helps to keep on top of cleaning and household chores. A schedules also means that jobs do not get too big to manage.

  • I’m very much a cleaning on the go type of a person. There are certain things I do daily like brushing the floors, wiping the counters cupboard, cleaning the toilet, sinks and mirrows. Other things I do weekly but never on a specific day, just depending my weekly schedule, like washing the bedding and mopping the floors. I clean the shower cabin when I have a shower and clean the bath before I run a bath.
