Chillies thrive best with plenty of sun, but in particularly hot climates, direct midday sunshine can cause the leaves to scorch and dry out. In these situations, lightly dappled shade combined with close attention to watering is the best approach.
Compost and horse manure are good organic fertilizers for chillies grown organically. Horse manure is spread on the vegetable bed and dug up. Mist bed compost has a good long-term effect as the components rot only slowly. During decomposition, the nutrient is first made accessible to the plants.

I had two chilli plants this year. One boomed and I got heaps and heaps of chillies. The other was reall sad and struggled, only got not even half a dozen off that one. Same place in garden, same nutrients, different plants.

And how long do they last? Are they seasonal or do they continue to produce fir years? Something ate ALL the leaves off of mine

In winter My chilli plant lost its leaves & I would cut it back a little & it would come back when it got hot.So they like the sun,I would cut it back.

Chilli plants are really hardy and I’ve found lots of mini chilli plants next to my bigger ones! Give it some fertilizer if it’s struggling. I also have a compost bin so I put some compost around the plans every once in a while.

The Seasol spray’s good, also the plant Yates nutrient powder in a jar from Bunnings are quite good every now and then.

Mine like being under out patio area which on hot days can be like a greenhouse. I think it protects them from the chill in winter too
