Hello!

I only stopped breast feeding my daughter a month ago at 2 yrs old, and she will only have sips of cows milk. Not too sure if I should keep trying with the cows milk or put her onto formula using a sippy cup? What have other mums done?

  • We went straight from breastfeeding to cows milk. We use the b-box cups with straw and our son took to it really well. Just keep at it :)

  • I agree not to worry too much. She probably just has to get used to the different taste. Some cows milk in wheatbix, cheese and cream in dinner and some yoghurt here and there is plenty. You could make some homemade ice cream/ -blocks with yoghurt and fruits.

  • That is great if she is at least sipping cows milk as at that age they are ready for a balanced diet and not just milk . Some cheese, yoghurt, eggs , etc will be good and soon she will want to drink more as she gets accustomed to it .

  • I wouldn’t be worrying about milk too much at that age, maybe just make sure you’re offering cheese and yoghurt once or twice a day. My little guy never wanted cows milk out of a sippy cup, but loves drinking it in regular cup – maybe give that a go if you haven’t already.

  • After 12mths they can drink cow’s milk, all vitamins etc should come from thekr food – nl need for formula (one less thing to worry about :)

  • we went formula and then 1/2 formula-1/2 milk and then just milk. It took a while for my son to decide he liked the taste of cows milk so we had to gradually introsuce the taste hence mixing it with formula

  • Each to their own whatever she would prefer. My daughter wanted cows milk so that’s what she got

  • Formula!

  • read all this , glad it all worked for you and congrats on breastfeeding for so long

  • She can get calcium from lots of other food sources and doesnt NEED another animals milk- so if she doesn’t want cows milk then dont stress- if you do research you will find cows milk is not that great for humans anyway. My daughter went from breastmilk to just water and she is fine fit and healthY!!

  • i would go cows milk if she is eating healthy

  • if shes eating enough dairy shouldn’t matter too much about milk, you could buy the powered toddler mild they use to get extra nutrients.

  • Thanks for checking up on me coppin85 It’s going really well. She hasn’t asked for a breast feed since which has made this such an easier thing that I was expecting it to be lol She sometimes asks for cows milk in the arvo/night so i give it to her and she sits on my lap while drinking it so I’m happy with that :)

  • If she is eating solids well then I’d say cows milk but if you are worried she is not getting enough nutrition from her food then you can supplement with formula.

  • I would go for cows milk myself

  • how is it going? :)

  • From 12 months they can have cows milk.

  • if you have budget then cow’s milk. But formula has a lot more added nutrients i gues

  • there are some good comments here

  • thanks for sharing this, i needed to know too
