Crafts and hobbies? - Mouths of Mums

Hello!

Just curious what crafts or hobbies everyone has? I’m interested in learning some new fun skills but I get easily frustrated and tend to give up too quick.
I’ve been thinking of crocheting or learning piano or something but I feel like everything is so hard to learn as an adult. Any recommendations?

  • Aw and another one I have been doing is making bird toys 🙂
My eldest 2 kids have birds and I started with making toys when my daughter was given 3 extra birds as a Christmas present from a colleague and she was in tears; because she had to buy extra cages and extra toys and she didn’t have money at that point. So I thought by myself how I could help her and decided to make toys as a surprise. My daughter was touched and it is really fun to do.

  • I’ve been noticing a lot of short classes of just a few hours or even a day popping up for many various things. This way you meet people too and get a social outing. Sourdough baking, bread making, preserving, bonsai startup, a big variety of cooking. As an avid reader Book clubs are a great idea too. Reading is a wonderful bobby.
    Sewing too is amazing.

  • I like crochet and knitting and love to sew as well and may combine them all. I just finished a knitted cotton jumper which I embroidered with leaves, flowers, and branches. I then crocheted an edge on the bottom and sleeves and sewed a matching pants. I did hat making in the past as well and still make occasionally cards. I love drawing and painting too, and so does my daughter who does Bachelor of visual arts.

  • I hand make cards. Like birthday cards. Last year I hand made aboutg 85 Christmas cards to hand out to family and friends. My daughter’s teachers would all get a hand made card at Christmas every year. My youngest daughter has gotten into junk journaling. I used to do scrapbooking.

  • I sew and did before I became a stepmum. My partner is a historian so as some fun we research our family history. Our kids are really into tech but because we don’t have screens, they do electronic work where they create things like a solar powered toy, or a bionic ear. The youngest is also into art and has even had his work exhibited in a gallery!!

  • I love sewing and used YouTube videos to self learn when covid first hit. I went from only ever hand sewing to threading needles, replacing bobbins, and making a bunch of cute and handy baby pieces and so many scrunchies for myself. It’s on pause for the moment, as it’s a hard hobby to have with babies in the house, but it’s a great skill to have.
I also love mosaicing. The tile cutter is so satisfying and I can decorate plant pots and make garden decorations.
Both aren’t cheap hobbies but I love having craft pieces I’ve made

  • I have recently taken up doing 1000 puzzles. These have been fun and can be quite hard as a lot of the pieces are very similar. I have completed 3 of them so far and found each one really fun and challenging. It has been a great way to destress and so something different.
